Another great book from this truly talented author. Troy's mental health issues are treated with care, and his "outing" is handled perfectly. I can't wait for the next in this series, and have in fact already pre-ordered it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet holiday romance, but the preceding book is a 'must read' to completely enjoy this one. LOVED THIS. 7 Dec. 2016

This book should be read AFTER the second book in the Veteran's Affairs series. (Half-Broke is the first book.) This story features the MCs (and supporting characters) from the second book.

The book starts with a view into the life of Dmitri and Troy who have been living together for a few months. Dmitri is still reconsidering if he should be a research vet or a vet that treats pets. Troy is still working and attending school as an undergraduate. He struggles with the workload and gets frustrated. On top of all that pressure, his sister is begging him to come home to West Virginia for Christmas.

The bulk of the book takes place in West Virginia as Troy is reunited with family and Dmitri meets them all for the first time. I LOVED this story. I felt like we got to know the two MCs even better than in the last book. I loved the comments and actions from Troy's family. I LOVED how supportive Dmitri was being. I loved that Troy is getting stronger and dealing better with his PTSD. There was a LOT to love in this book. One thing I DIDN'T love was the verb tense changes. Most of the book is written in past tense but occasionally the author switched to present tense. That jarred me a bit when it happened. HOWEVER, the story was so enjoyable and entertaining (and happiness inducing!) that I just flat out DO NOT CARE enough about the verb problems. WIthout a doubt, the best of the 3 books in the series. I hope there are more.

Dmitri and Troy return in this story about going home for Christmas.
For most this is a much-anticipated trip. But what if...
Troy is ambivalent, he made promises to come home to those he loves.
The path for these two is not smooth. They are still working through a lot of issues and sometimes say or do the "wrong" thing.
Troy is struggling with his college courses and is frustrated. Dmitri wants to help but does not know how.
Troy has a hard decision to make. Should he/can he come out to his family? He talks to a man he admires and understands his problem.

Now the question. Dmitri and Troy return in this story about going home for Christmas.

I loved this novella that moves the story of 'Detroit' and Troy along into the messy world of family life in West Virginia. Troy needs to open up about the issues he's facing since serving in the Middle East, the necessity of Sweetie's presence and this feelings for 'Detroit.'

A wonderful story!

A beautiful ending to a wonderful series. Christmas and coming out. Loving and being loved. Realizing that not everyone is nice and tolerant but the ones who really matter are enough......oh and BELIEVE in Santa and in happy ever after.

So happy we got more of Troy and Dimitri! Love them, love their relationship, love reading about how they grow as people and as a couple. A great short for those who needed more from that couple. <3
