Two events changed two families' lifelong friendship years ago. When Sandy MacDowell borrowed Mary Sutton's tea service, loaned it to someone, and it was then stolen, their families became enemies. Despite this, Noel MacDowell and Thomas Sutton managed to fall in love and plan to marry. However, a misunderstanding shattered this relationship and the two parted, not to see one another for ten years.
When Noelle comes home to be part of her sister's wedding, it is inevitable that Thomas is one of the first people she sees, and keeps on seeing. At first, both pretend that their love turned into hate, but before long, they realize it did not and try to be just friends, though secretly. Their mothers still hate each other; however, they are being forced to work together on their club's annual Christmas basket project.
In an effort to mend the feud, Thomas and Noelle begin a search for a duplicate tea service, and in the process find that friendship is not all they feel. As Christmas draws nearer, can two miracles occur and two sets of hearts be healed?
With trademark humor and warmth, Debbie Macomber spins a tale sure to touch your heart. Both storylines are endearing and captivating, as you can always expect with this writer. Her characters, as always, are easy to relate to, as if you already knew them, or someone just like them. This is perfect reading with a cup of warm cocoa, even in the deep south where it might be iced hot chocolate instead.

A Silver tea set was what sparked a row between two friends that turned into a family feud between the MacDowell's and the Suttons. Mary Sutton lent Real Estate Agent, Sarah MacDowell, a family heirloom which once belonged to her grandmother--a silver tea set. Sarah had lent it to another Real Estate Agent whom Mary couldn't stand for her Open House. The tea set was stolen and Mary never forgave her friend for losing her beloved tea set. This sparked a grudge between the two friends that went on for years, affecting everyone in their households and the community at large.

Their children, Noelle MacDowell and Thom Sutton bore the brunt of that grudge. Both children fell secretly in love with each other since high school. They planned to confront their feuding mothers and announce their plan to elope.
Both mothers were dead set against the idea. Nineteen year old Noelle stood up to her mother, Sarah, and stormed out of the house to meet her beloved Thom at the pre-arranged meeting place, only to find out that Thom had stood her up.
Hurt, betrayed and writhing with anger, Noelle moved to Texas vowing never to return to Rose, Oregon again. She wanted to forget about Thom Sutton.

But when her sister, Kristen, announced she was getting married to Jonathon, she asked her sister, Noelle to come to Rose to discuss wedding plans. Adamant to return to the place where her heart was broken, Noelle felt trapped. She didn't want to return to Rose and come face-to-face with the man that broke her heart; but then again, how could she miss her chance to see her sisters. Boarding on a plane, she returned to Rose to face her past. Yet how could she forget what happened ten years ago when everyday would be a painful reminder every time she ran into Thom.

The Christmas Basket is a Christmas-themed novel by popular American author, Debbie Macomber. After ten years of avoiding Rose, her Oregon home town, Noelle McDowell is back for Christmas. She is hoping to evade any encounters with Thomas Sutton: her humiliation when he jilted her still smarts. But fate has other ideas and Noelle keeps running into Thom. After some strong words, they finally discover what really happened ten years ago. But the feud between their mothers, over a misunderstanding and an unfortunate theft, threatens to stand in the way of true love. This is a cute little tale with a bit of romance and a long-running squabble between friends. The reconciliation scene during the ice storm is the funniest part, but Macomber has done better. 3.5 stars

2.0 out of 5 stars Just Silly 28 Dec. 2014
By Kindle Customer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This book was not my type of book at all. It was over the top silly (two best friends feuding for years over an accidental lost antique silver tea set), two grown woman acting like children over this long standing feud (could not even be in the same store, to make holiday charity baskets), their children walking on eggshells, almost missing a chance at true love because of their mother's dispute and on and on. It was extremely predictable, starting from the first chapter. Readers knew exactly what would happen throughout the entire story, right from the moment the main character is on the plane and her ex just happens to be on there to.
The only positive thing I can say is that the e-book is very short and with all the horrible things happening in the world right now, it's a harmless, happy ending story. Just don't pay for it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming book just in time for Christmas! 23 Dec. 2014

What a perfect story for the Christmas season! I’ve been on a Christmas book kick for the past few weeks and stumbled upon this book on sale so I decided to give it a try and it turned out to be quite enjoyable and a nice light read. Noelle and Thom were high school sweethearts, from feuding families, who had planned on running off together to elope when they were 18 but a misunderstanding left them both heartbroken and separated for 10 years. Having spent the last 10 years away from her hometown Noelle is finally returning home for Christmas and who does she run into before she even gets to the town? Thom of course! Their paths continue to cross but both of them are so hurt over what they believed to have happened that night 10 years ago. When the truth comes out it doesn’t take long for them to realize they are still in love with each other, but they still have one major issue: their mothers (once best friends) are still mortal enemies. I loved Thom and Noelle and their story of forgiveness, love and second chances but their mothers Mary and Sarah stole the show for me! An incident 20 years ago caused these once best friends to become bitter rivals and when they are forced to work together to create the Christmas Baskets for their women’s club the fur flies (quite literally in the Value-X!). These two were out of control in their hatred and desire to one up the other, you won’t believe some of their behavior! You’d think you were reading about children and not 50-something year old women! I won’t spoil the story for you but if you’re looking for a heartwarming story of love, friendship, forgiveness, family and second chances this is a perfect book to read and just in time for Christmas!

"The Christmas Basket" by Debbie Macomber was a very good read of 'romance, forgiveness, friendship and redemption.' We find that Noelle MacDowell hadn't been home for over ten years due to the fact that the marriage that had been planned never happened between her and Thom Sutton. We also find Mary Sutton and Sarah MacDowell who had been best friends for over twenty years were not now because of .a 'Silver tea set' had been stolen. See, this tea set had been stolen and Mary had never forgiven her friend for losing it. So, you may say that this was a spat between the two families...the MacDowell's and the Sutton. What will happen between the two Marry and Sarah as they are thrown together? What had been the real problem between Noelle and Tom that had really started all of this mess? All of these questions will and more will be answered in "The Christmas Basket" that will truly touch your heart of friendship and love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Debbie Macomber has a way with Christmas romances. 19 Dec. 2014

Debbie Macomber's Christmas stories are a feast for the heart and this one is no exception. Noelle McDowell and Thomas Sutton have not seen each other for a decade because each blames the other for a betrayal on their elopement. When Noelle finally returns to her hometown of Rose, Oregon, they find their feelings for each other have never faltered and discover the misunderstanding behind their estrangement. The trouble is their mothers (former best friends) have been harboring a silly feud for the past 20 years, even though their husbands are golfing buddies. The two ladies are thrown together to assemble Christmas baskets by the administrator of their country club in an effort to heal their animosity. The ensuing encounters and public humiliations over their feud are hilarious. How will Noelle and Thom ever get them to reconcile? This light-hearted holiday romance will leave you with a warm fuzzy Christmas feeling.
5.0 out of 5 stars Can't tell the difference between this and sterling silver 20 Feb. 2015

This chain necklace is beautiful and it looks just like sterling silver but without all the effort of keeping it clean. I don't have to worry about that tarnish coming off on my clothes, which is why I stopped wearing my sterling silver chains. I was always cleaning them and the tarnish would still come off on my clothes. Also, the size of the snake chain is just right for my pendants, not too thin, not too heavy and masculine, it's just perfect. Thank you for the quick delivery. It would be nice if the ring at the end of the chain, where I have to put that end into the pendant, if that ring were just a little smaller because it doesn't fit through all my pendants and my pendants aren't small, they're medium to large size.
