This guy can really write sex in a completely realistic way. It comes alive off the page in a way which is very rare. Also, the whole book hangs together very well which is also rare with erotic books. The plot is clever with four major plot points (I won't spoil it for you by saying much more) that move it along at a good pace so that interest is maintained throughout. The book is quite short, a novella rather than a novel, and there are only three major characters, Christa, a quiet, almost waif-like figure, her friend Maisie who is the opposite, well endowed and buxom and sexually aware and Jake Brutus, the blacksmith, who comes across as a raw, caveman with brains type of character who is actually much softer than he looks. The interesting thing about the characters is how appearances can be deceptive so the book not only has a plot but also a theme! How often can you say that about an erotic book?
But what is most impressive about the book is that the author can write to a very high standard indeed. This is high quality stuff and when I had read the book - actually I read it three time which shows that not only is it short but it is also an excellent read - I could not help wondering if the author was some Booker prize winner who writes erotica for the money - that's how good it is!
So, what else can I say? If you want a genuine quality read of an erotic book then this is a must.
written sex book of the year' award or something genuinely readable and really rather good?
In this case, this author has genuine talent for this type of writing. The opening few paragraphs of any book are the most crucial and this book begins well with the writer using the four horseshoes as separate sexual episodes, leading up to the final denouement when the fourth horseshoe is well and truly earned. Each episode is punctuated by a dream that gives the story even greater fluidity and an ebb and flow about it.
But a book in this genre ultimately succeeds or fails on the strength of the sexual writing itself and here this book scores particularly highly. Sexual writing has to be realistic and believable whilst all the time retaining an element of fantasy and this book has it all in this respect.
This is a book I would highly recommend it to all fans of erotic fiction.
This is a superb little tale which is both beautifully written and wonderfully paced. It all starts innocently enough but soon draws you in as Christa becomes consumed with her quest, but is it really horseshoes she is seeking?”
That said, the writing style is very engaging and draws you into the story; I found it made me keep turning the page to see what would happen next.
The story revolves around Christa and her quest to acquire for new horseshoes for her Pony, Sherman, despite a serious lack of funds. There are a number of unexpected events along the way but these always take a more surprising turn than you think and never deteriorates into poorly written smut.
So, the writing is first class, especially for a first novel and particularly for a book of this type. I have only given it three stars however, because it will not be everyone's cup of tea and the fluid style and the powerful storytelling may draw you into a world you are not totally comfortable with.
So, this is hot stuff, maybe a little too hot for some!.
