near 300pages of easy to read text that explains the inexorable and exponential rise of the career of C.J.Tarrant Esquire from B'mingham, near Dudley(qv Lenny Henry).

goes into some depth on Tiswas; OTT; Capital radio; WWTBAM.

not enough info on alexei sayle, lenny henry et al, howerd hughes or russ kane though.

reasons behind Kara Noble's spectacular quitting from capital radio and then even more spectacular own goal from heart radio and beyond.

misses out more/much of CJ's oaffish radio behaviour(s), pranks, jests and jolly-japes, CR's sponsored holidays etc on capital radio as well as highly questionable lunatics "Barry of Bushey" and "Alistair 'Nicey'" and many other potential anecdotes from his career at capital radio(mid-80s to 2003) as well.

recommended reading but deserves an updating too.

Before I start I have to tell you that I know Mr Tarrant quite well, so I guess I was going to be a bit disappointed.
Of it's type, this biography is a perfectly good piece of work. However, I found that the character described in the book isn't really a picture of the bloke I know.
As I say, though, I'm not really the person to make judgments here.

Virginia Blackburn has created an easily accessible, comprehensive and readable biography of media giant, Chris Tarrant. She charts Tarrant's life from a lovable rouge schoolboy to the articulate presenter he is today. Although I've followed Tarrant's career since TISWAS, I wasn't aware of his private life, so this book fills in the gaps rather nicely. All in all, a good book and highly recommended.
