well this little book (20.5 x 16cm) was all i wanted as it explains all you need to know. the 200 motifs include flowers, fruit & vegetables, insects, animals, Chinese zodiac, birds, fish, landscape elements and compositions. This is more than enough to keep me amused for quite awhile and the images are really lovely.
Another point is that the book is sort of spiral bound i think you call it, anyway it means it opens flat which i think is a plus for a book you are trying to work from.
At the price it is really good value for money and as a beginner just what i wanted.
I do watercolour painting already and I had a casual look through this book - and what an inspiration! The author shows easy ways to achieve that classic Oriental style so you can succeed from the off; but I think that perhaps this painting style takes hours to learn and a lifetime to master. The book is superbly indexed, in fullcolour, and has material lists by every painting. I found, too, that an acceptable (if not particularly Chinese) painting can be achieved with Western materials.
The book does what it says, recreates step by step, with a little practice you can produce excellent cards and paintings.
