I bought this as a Christmas present and my boyfriend followed all the instructions religiously.
He planted two seeds per square (so 4/chilli type) and he had a lot of success. The chillis definitely grow at different rates (the hotter they are, generally the slower they are) but we have at least one plant of every type with many more seeds if we were to want to retry.
I was very surprised but we have actually grown quite a few chillis now (May-5 months later) as you can see from the photos!
It's actually been really fun; first waiting to see if any of the seeds grew and then to see which flowers turn into chilli's.
We are not green fingered in the slightest- we have an artificial lawn(!) but have found this kit a really fun experience.
Would definitely recommend!

Update on the above, there are 6 Jajapeno, 9 Cayenne and one tiny bud of Habanero. All of these are at various stages of development. Very pleased with the outcome so far. Hopefully will be potting them on soon.
Further update. Planted out in larger pots, still in the conservatory, 6 Jalapeno and 6 Cayenne. The one Habanero is now about 5mm above ground. When large enough I will plant it out. One buyer mentioned the lack of growing information. Please note when planting out, handle carefully by the leaves, not the stem. If you accidentally crush a leave, the plant will still survive. Crush the stem - that's it! Hope this helps.
In all that time I’ve grown a whole room full of other things from other places but these I ended up throwing away!..
I bought a fresh pepper out of curiosity, took out the seeds, planted them in soil next to it, and waited doing only what I was doing to this... I have now planted over 40 seedlings from that one pepper.. and still nothing from THIS !!!
WASTE OF MONEY AVOID!!!!!
The kit itself, seed trays, etc is a bit flimsy and prone to falling over, I had to weigh it down.
