Product description

Review

“Dylan Thomas’s reading of his Child’s Christmas in Wales is jam-packed with strong, unexpected images. It is observant yet humourous and it will certainly put you in festive mood.”
Good Book Guide December 1996

From the Back Cover

'A Child's Christmas in Wales' has become a classic among Christmas tales. The Christmases remembered here are quintessentially Thomas's own but they have become the archetypal family season that we all hold dear.
Five of Thomas's most well-known poems are included in this recording – the first ever made by him. At the time no one realised that in that quiet afternoon's recording session over thirty years ago, Dylan Thomas had given the world the best of himself for all time.

The poems are Fern Hill, Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night, In the White Giant's Thigh, Ballad of the Longlegged Bait, Ceremony after a Fire Raid.

Dylan Marlais Thomas was born in Swansea in 1914. Following a brief spell as a junior reporter on the 'South Wales Evening Post', he moved to London where he rapidly established himself as one of the finest poets of his generation. His first collection, 'Eighteen Poems', appeared in 1934 and was followed by four more volumes. Thomas also wrote short stories, film-scripts, and the celebrated radio play 'Under Milk Wood'.

In 1953, shortly after his thirty-ninth birthday, he died suddenly in New York. He is buried in Laugharne, Wales.
