Product description

Product Description

This outstanding police procedural drama stars Martin Shaw (George Gently) as Alan Cade, Chief Constable of Eastland, a fictional East Anglian force. Focussing on the politics of policing as much as the daily fight against crime, The Chief sees the compassionate, principled Cade in frequent conflict with both his Home Office superiors and the local government agencies that are increasingly taking over many police roles.

Featuring scripts by Ian Kennedy Martin (The Sweeney), this fifth and final series sees Cade's antagonists closing in. He finds both his job and his reputation on the line when a national newspaper splashes an article criticising his record as Chief Constable, and suggesting that all those around him would like to see him go. Someone closely associated with Cade is responsible for supplying the journalist with details...

Not a fan, didn't really like any of these programmes, too much internal wrangling and complaining not enough crime investigation

Good acting all round and gripping stories as well. I thought that Martin Shaw made up for the loss of the first two series actor who was excellent Tim Pigott-Smith.

I bought this as I like Martin Shaw the actor. He plays the part of the chief really well. The first two series had a fine actor in Tim Piggott-Smith as the chief but when Martin Shaw takes over it was an excellent progression. For once one of these series had an ending as such and didn't just fizzle out. There is a natural feeling that Eastland is going to be safe for years to come in the radical CC Alan Cade but nevertheless this is a good point at which to leave the story.

Though this series is from a few years back, the issues in each episode are still quite topical. Martin Shaw's character, Chief Constable Alan Cade, deals with situations that illustrate just how difficult it is for even the best law enforcement leaders to try to do the sensible, reasonable thing in this age of sensitive politics, downright corruption, and overt hate and anger.

I chose this rating as I consider it the best police drama in the whole world, far better than the American rubbish.
I thought the acting was superb, and the direction brilliant, also the script was over powering and the best I have ever seen.
The story was so true of police services around the world, the idiot politicians and bureaucrats at high level who continually try to force their elected supervisory to play their game of corruption and high level complete foul ups at the highest level.
Brilliant is too weak a word for this marvellous show.
Everybody should watch this dvd as it has future implications with so many politicians around the world stuffing up the world.

Martin Shaw was a great successor for the departed Tim Piggott-Smith in the role of Chief Constable of Eastland Police. Like all those before it, this series has bite. Some great story lines and good solid acting . Highly recommended.
