this book is mainly for the women who are aged over 40 who are interested in aging gracefully and taking care of their appearances.Anne Barone gives great tips on nearly every part of the body and even talks about menopause and how the french women cope with the changes in their body and how to deal with stress. it,s a good read and i,ll be reading it again

Chic & Slim Toujours: Aging Beautifully Like Those Chic French Women

This book is apparently part of a series, how the author got a publishing contract, I am not too sure. Nothing more than utter common sense, a very slim (if you forgive the pun) volume with even skinnier advice.
For starters - how can you advise on style without pictures or illustrations? Oh, forgive me, the author kindly advises: "You may find it useful o see photos of the women I am discussing. You can find them online..." Thanks for that, I can find much better advice all round on the internet.
This is really nothing else but cobbled together common knowledge, I dare any woman of a certain age not to be able to put a book like this together from experience and just daily observations, and maybe reading a magazine on style occasionally. Those at least come with pictures.
And as they say - a picture is worth a thousand words. Quite frankly, if the author would have just put one illustration in every brief chapter, then she could have saved herself the words.

This is an ok book, quite useful really - as far as most of our current lifestyles and wardrobes allows. No book will ever really make you the person you think you should be so treat this for fun. If you want to look like a "French woman" just hire a DVD and make some notes.

I think that if you are already on this path you should know most of this stuff but there is no harm in some reinforcement.

Just remember that not every French woman is Catherine Deneuve. You may feel better about yourself than you think by just having a walk around streets of Paris. Trust me I have done the leg work. I don't mind my knees at all now.

I bought all Anne's books on the strength of her first...I wish now I had taken other reviews to heart and gave this one a miss. But I'm heading quickly up to 50 and was interested to know the French philosophy on ageing gracefully. This book does not offer any advice about ageing gracefully at all! It is full of references to prominent French women that it got to be very irritating that the reader has to go from the book to online images of these women to understand the point she was making!

I'm afraid I gave up trying to read the book at about 23% in...I did a quick glance at the rest and have decided to delete from my French inspiration collection! I went to age gracefully and for me there's no place for cosmetic surgery and extremely expensive creams which this book, especially at the beginning, was promoting on and on!

Please don't buy unless you actually want to know what creams and surgeries/procedures you want to spend your money on!
