About the Author

Tony was born in Manchester, England, the great-grandson of an Italian immigrant from Genoa whose own son (Tony's grandfather) was closely identified with Manchester United for over forty years. In 1902 he actually gave the football club its name. At the age of seventeen he began a long journalistic career by joining a local paper in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and has been writing for a living almost ever since. He left England when he was twenty to spend a year in Greece as associate editor of the English-language daily, Athens News. Returning to London, he worked for ten years at Daily Mail followed by another ten at The Sunday Times. His foreign assignments have taken him to some of the world's hotspots in Israel, Greece, Czechoslovakia, Colombia and Uganda and Cyprus. For a while he was based in the Daily Mail's New York bureau as a correspondent covering North America. In 1982 Tony and his wife, Mira, left London to live abroad. He spent several years freelancing from France and Italy before they began the Italian adventure recounted in CHIANTI ON THE ROCKS. His articles appeared in most British national newspapers as well as The New York Times, and Reader's Digest. For a while he was European Editor of Travel Holiday Magazine (USA).
