It's not badly written and it's well edited with only a few easily made mistakes but it wasn't at all what I was expecting when I read the synopsis.
Pierre has a reputation as an intolerable, insufferable chef with a fiery temper and no patience at all. This persona lasts all of two seconds when he meets Holly and she wins him over almost immediately. I was expecting more of a build up and as a result, I couldn't buy into his tough persona. He supposed to be an alpha but he's soppier than a wet tissue.
I understand that Pierre lost his wife and is still pining for her but he spends a good portion of the book (during the first half at least) talking to her and he can smell her scent on the breeze and believes the breeze is her caress. This was just too much for me.
His first kiss with Holly is all wrapped up in his feelings for his dead wife and it was all a bit odd.
Holly is a more realistic character and of course she has her daughter but her daughter plays a massive part of the story, where I was expecting it to be more about Pierre and their tumultuous relationship.
Things go from zero to sixty in no time at all and it all feels so rushed. There's no tension or build up and as I said before, I couldn't get into Pierre's character, which could have been amazing.
So this book wasn't for me I'm afraid and I just felt it was anticlimactic but I wish the author all the best.
Pierre LeCame to Australia 20 years ago he had a wife but he too had his life torn to shreds when his wife was killed,he had always been known as the master chef but after the death of his wife it quickly changed to monster chef!! Hes mean, moody arrogant but underneath hes broken over the loss of his wife and deals with it the only way he knows
Holly had to go on with life for the sake of her daughter,Pierre drowned himself in booze, taking his pain out on everyone else.Holly finds herself working with Pierre,he makes it clear he doesn’t want her working with him but shes determined to do her job.But theres an attraction between them and sparks start to fly.Holly brings out feelings in Pierre he thought hed never feel again, she also stands up to him and tells it like it is…much to his amusement. But Hlly ries to stay away afraid of getting hurt but the heart wants what the heart wants!! Hollys daughter Emma also melts Pierres frozen heart and he wonders can he find happiness and love again?
Can two people both nursing broken hearts heal each other and start to love again?Theres a few twists and turns lots of red hot sexy moments,Pierre certainly knows how to talk dirty and make food sound sexy too!!Ultimately is a story of two people finding love again moving on from the past and facing a bright new future that maybe scares them abit too. I loved the way Margaret described the pain they both felt particularly Pierre, its emotional at times but funny in places and has some other secondary characters that bring a lot to the story too.
I cant wait for Margarets next book!!
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Romance, Erotica
I’d read the amazon sample and this looked really promising – the love/hate relationship looked like it would deliver some sparks and sharp wit. It did for a while, but very quickly they moved from hate to full on romance, and for me I needed a bit more development, a slower progression.
I didn’t really feel I got to know either of them as people, their likes, dislikes, a sense of them, not just as names on a page. I didn’t connect with them. Then there’s Emma, and what an incredibly precocious little girl she is, wise beyond her years at times and I felt she was more like a seven year old going on seventeen in what she said and how she acted...
I just couldn’t see how two broken-hearted people, grieving so deeply could suddenly fall in love. The fact they started off badly was working for me, the are clearly two very strong minded and opinionated types so it was clear sparks would fly but it moved too soon for me, I didn’t feel they really had a connection other than lust. I think I needed a slower build up, and a bit more day to day stuff. Ah well, there are some fabulous five star reviews so not everyone feels as I do, just shows once again that we all enjoy different styles of read.
Stars: Three , a fun but one off read for me.

Genial! French for brilliant. I loved this book. The story captured me from the very first page. Reading about Holly and Pierre. Holly a single mum, daughter Emma aged 7 years old. Holly decides to go back to work, the timing feels right and she wants to do something with her life. She is an absolute great mother to Emma. They both live with Holly's mother in law, Bromwyn. She is a lovely woman, she wants nothing more than Holly and Emma to be happy. Sometimes in life you have to take a risk or you will never know and always wonder what if, plus it could be the best decision you ever made. Pierre works in a restaurant as head chef, he's arrogant, rude, over bearing, moody, oh the list is endless. He's had a lot to deal with but is this a good enough excuse to behave in such a way towards others?. I think maybe he didn't care about his attitude because he almost stop living in the same world as everyone else. Literally going to work to create his recipes then back home to find oblivion. All the waiting staff find him very attractive but he pays them no attention. Holly ends up having to work with Pierre, Pierre doesn't want to work with Holly, she basically doesn't care about his attitude, she has a job to do and she's going to do it, no matter what he says. This story is about giving and receiving second chances in life. A second chance at love. Two people who deserve happiness but are frightened to take the risk. Pierre can not only cook up a storm in his kitchen, he's explosive in the bedroom. Oui, the man is French and passionate. I would definitely recommend this book.
