Product description

'Not only is the book light hearted and humorous with a number of insights into British society (as well as the British summer), it is also incredibly well written. Especially the detail of the nature of the clouds, the oysters, comparison of the daily world as we see it and how those around us would see it (emphasised by the views of the Australian Cricket team that also make an entrance). By contrasting nature with the day to day, you get the impression at times of a reality suspended temporarily. Brilliant read; especially for all who have suffered the misery of British summers.' --Newbooks Magazine

'A hymn, a paean to the English Summer - it is so moving I even found myself reaching for my umbrella. ' --Margery Forbes, Hemel Hempstead (Mrs)

'If you like food - you'll love this book! ' -- --Geoff Ling (Food Writers Union)

'Following hot on the heels of Harry Hop-Pole comes Chef of Distinction! the second in the Wispy Gorman series of comic novels. Like its predecessor, Chef of Distinction! follows our hero Dick Scabbit and friends as they embark on another humorous adventure, this time as they turn their attention to the murky world of pub food. When Mickey Jakes, owner of the Dog and Bucket , decides it s time to open the doors to his beer garden, a group of locals are invited to help clear out the garden in exchange for the chance to sell burgers and earn some extra cash! I would say more about the plot at this point, but to reveal further details would be to venture perilously close to the climax of the novel. As with the previous book in the series, not a lot actually happens in Chef, but anything that does happen is quite important to the plot, and indeed the humour of the book. All I will say at this point is the Dog and Bucket receives a number of interesting visitors... Chef is far, far funnier than Harry Hop-Pole.' -- --M.J.Ryder
