DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM, IT IS DANGEROUS. I bought this as a silly birthday gift for my brother as he loves kitchen gadgets. The first time he used it he found tiny particles of metal in the mash; the ricer clearly hadn't been finished properly at the end of the manufacturing process. Having washed it and tried it twice more, he still found metal particles in the potato. On examining the ricer, it is clearly a faulty piece of kit - either we were unlucky and got the only faulty one in the batch, or the process is faulty and there are more of them out there. Unfortunately I am unable to contact the seller as I bought the ricer well in advance and have just missed the 30 day returns deadline. However, I would urge anyone thinking of purchasing this brand to think again and buy elsewhere. Asda do a great one for a fiver, and you can easily return it to store if necessary.
I'm just relieved that my brother noticed the metal and didn't give the mash to his young family.

Following on from this, I contacted Amazon separately as I couldn't contact the seller. Amazon customer service were great; I received an immediate refund and prepaid postage to return the defective ricer. They are also going to investigate on the matter of safety. Thanks Amazon!

I saw the lovely Mary Berry using a potato ricer on a recent TV programme. I'm a bit reluctant to buy too many gadgets as most of the time they don't get used much and just take up valuable space in the kitchen. If you love good mash this model does the business. It produces smooth mash effortlessly.

Well, I suppose the old adage "Buy Cheap, Get Cheap" is as true as it ever was.
I ordered this potato ricer in November 2013 and have used it maybe a dozen times in all.
It will hold one average size potato cut up into 3 pieces and can just about cope Be prepared for the potato to leak out of the top.
Last time I used it, at the beginning of March, the top handle bent completely out of shape and the ricer is now useless.
I contacted the seller through Amazon and they don't want to know, quoting " The return period has expired" Obviously they don't expect the product to last more than 3 months. I can't be bothered to pursue it any further for what it cost - less than £10.
I've now ordered the Gefu Original Potato Press and am hoping the Germans can get it right!

I purchased this ricer as the one I had bought previously lost a rivet on it's second use. (Different brand) This one does the job perfectly well but doesn't seem very strong. As it's all metal, it does feel as if it has quite sharp edges but it's still in one piece! If the edges were a little more 'rounded' on the handles, I would have given full marks.

The item I received was not made by Chef's Aid, it had no labels on it and just came in a plain box, it is a much cheaper model. It has riced potatoes but I do not think it will be a durable product. I paid almost £20 incl P&P and I'm really disappointed with nt getting the quality or brand of product i ordered.
