One of Guru Dutt's best alongwith Pyaasa, Chaudhvin Ka Chand and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. Brilliant performances by Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman & Johnny Walker. Contains my favorite song 'Waqt Ne Kiya' with haunting cinematography.
Guru Dutt's movies portray society's ugly & bitter face in this case high society & the film world. The title "Kagaz ke Phool" (Paper Flowers) signifies the empty joys of paper flowers that look great but don't smell great!

iThis is a wonderful, lyrical and touching film, worth seeing by anyone interested in early Indian cinema. Some lovely music sequences, particularly the birthday party with glitering veils. Sadly, the copy I ordered was lost in the post, but I hope to acquire this one day as it is a film that lingers in the memory, like a melancholy but beautiful dream.
