Format: Paperback
When I heard that John Mark Reynolds had written a novel, I immediately ordered it. I started reading almost as soon as it arrived, and finished it in record time. I very much wanted to be able to give a 5-star review, and I'm disappointed that I can't.

The story itself is imaginative and absorbing. Any fan of Lewis or Tolkien would be especially interested, I think. However, for me, the story was completely overshadowed by the frequent typographical errors and the device of changing the font for emphasis. I'm not sure who Unlocking Press is, but they would have done well to employ a good proofreader. One or two typos are quite normal for any book, of course, but this was full of mistakes. Not only mispelled words, but whole words left out of sentences, making some of them nearly incomprehensible. Words were combined when they shouldn't have been, hyphenation was all over the place, quotes and paragraphs were misplaced, and numbers were sometimes inserted into the middle of a word. Very confusing, very distracting.

Just one point about the style--the author didn't use any contractions, making the dialogue seem a bit stilted in places. That is totally subjective, of course, so someone else may not even notice.

It was very interesting for me, raised as a Baptist, to read a story from an Orthodox perspective. I'm also wishing I'd spent more time with Plato! I'm going to be thinking about this book for some time.

Will I read the sequel? Probably. But please, Dr Reynolds, insist on a good proofreader.
