About the authors

Pastor Roger Huang is the founder of San Francisco City Impact, and author of Chasing God. Pastor Roger has served for over 35 years in the Tenderloin District (inner city of San Francisco), a broken community with over 6,000 homeless. Pastor Roger has led others to serve the poor through simple love, prayer, and perseverance. City Impact mobilizes over 8,000 volunteers a year to serve through it's 5 major departments.

Susanna is a storyteller and loves making people laugh. Laughing is her favorite. She graduated from Bethany University with a BA in Social Science emphasizing psychology and early childhood education. She and her hilarious husband, Scott, (he paid her to say that) have three giant teenage boys. They are the joy of her life (when they are not trying to scare or tickle her.) After the birth of their first son, Susanna decided to stay home as a full-time mom and follow her passion of writing. She loves connecting with her readers and hearing the stories of how Jesus has turned their lives inside out for the better. For fun, she likes to eat chocolate, read lots of fiction and drink coffee with her girlfriends.

The story of his small beginning, just handing out sandwiches with prayer on the streets, to the huge ministry it is today, feeding thousands of families daily with the help of thousands of volunteers, is just awe-inspiring. It helps us trust more, pray more, care more, give more and love more.
We are then taken back to 1966 in Taipei where Roger is a young boy, naked and afraid, bearing the marks of his father's nightly anger. Even when the family moves to San Francisco in 1971, Roger is still being beaten daily. Finally in 1973, Roger who is now 17, faces his father and says "No" and leaves home. He finds his first work in a hotel but remains homeless, finding a different place to sleep each night.
When he meets his wife, Maite, he knows she is the one for him. Back to 1983, he is now married with four children (2 from Maite's previous marriage) and working 2 jobs. Read how God gets a hold of their lives and really speaks to Roger about the Tenderloin district. His ministry starts with him walking the streets handing out bologna sandwiches. That is followed by the whole family joining him and starting to minister to the "forgotten" children of this area.
The Tenderloin has approx. 500 high rises in one square mile with an estimated population of 40,000. Read this incredible story of how God has used Roger, his family and many, many others to reach these people for Jesus Christ. It has not been easy but they have persevered and God has blessed. It is not only encouraging to see how God has worked through them but also to read how Roger and Maite have worked and loved together as a married couple. They have always been there for each other and Roger's love for his wife as he writes is very evident.
Due to writing as if in the present, this book doesn't always flow that well due to the tense changes BUT that should not put you off. This is a book VERY well worth reading! INCREDIBLE!
I received a free e-copy of this book from NetGalley in return for a fair review.
