About the Author

T.K. Leigh, otherwise known as Tracy Leigh Kellam, is the USA Today Best Selling author of the Beautiful Mess series. Originally from New England, she now resides in sunny Southern California with her husband, dog and three cats, all of which she has rescued (including the husband). She always had a knack for writing, but mostly in the legal field. It wasn’t until recently that she decided to try her hand at creative writing and is now addicted to creating different characters and new and unique story lines in the Contemporary Romantic Suspense genre. When she’s not planted in front of her computer, writing away, she can be found running and training for her next marathon (of which she has run over fifteen fulls and far too many halfs to recall). Unlike Olivia, the main character in her Beautiful Mess series, she has yet to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

The long awaited return of the Burnham men does not disappoint.

I bought a copy for myself even though I was initially given an ARC to review.

The focus is on the youngest Burnham, Tyler. He has his own demons to overcome. He is tasked, through the family security company, to get close to Mackenzie Delano. Big brother, Alexander, shows a less than appealing side to his character.

Mackenzie is a woman with a past missing its first ten years. She is used to being in control. Everything she does, every minute, every hour, every day, week, month and year is allocated time according to her calendar. There are no blocks spare for extra curricular events...particularly not relationships.

She has been hurt badly before and has no intention of letting anyone get close enough to hurt her again.

T. K. Leigh is a writer who has grown with every book. Her characters have flaws, her settings exist. Her narrative flows. The quality of her writing is impeccable.

As this is the first of two books there is a bit of a cliffhanger. It is easy to see it coming so it is no surprise...more a gentle slope than a drop off a cliff.

Even so, book two can't come soon enough for me.

Five stars is never going to be enough!
This was superb, it had it all and it had it in spades… I think the hangover from this one may take a while to get over.
Tyler and MacKenzie, oh my lord they were just everything I could have possibly hoped for, amazing.
The story was so emotional, but that was the mere tip of the iceberg because it had everything but the kitchen sink included between the first and last page. It was a fast, spicy but funny read that had elements of both mystery and intrigue woven with consummate ease between each and every smoulderingly hot page.
MacKenzie needs one thing in her life, complete control. She examines and dissects every little thing in her life, events in her past have made her that way and she has absolutely no intension of ever changing.
I understood why she was like that but was praying that she would find someone to let her loosen the reigns and live a little, I didn’t have to wait long and TK Leigh answered my prayers when she unleashed the deliciousness that was Tyler Burnham and although his initial intensions were far from being as honourable as I would have wanted, I could forgive him anything… come on ladies he was just glorious!!!
The two of them together may have been never on the cards but when they eventually got together they were destined to hit the stratosphere, and I was clapping them all the way.
Chasing the Dragon will leave you chasing your tail, it will leave you gasping for air and with the need to have a long lie down in a very dark room.

Oh what has TK Leigh done to me, I have been anxiously awaiting Tyler’s story after having little peeks of him in The Beautiful Mess series and already being a little enamoured to him and T made me not like him very much. Why you may ask? I just hate what he is doing to Mackenzie. Every time she mentions why she is so closed off and craves control, my heart broke a little more for her dreading the inevitable revelation of what Tyler is about.

Poor Mackenzie has been through a lot in life from the moment we met her in the prologue as a young girl to the present day as an adult, life has been unfair. And it all seems to come back to her father, which is why Tyler is in her life, working for the Burnham Company his assignment is to find Mackenzie’s father and to do so he has to hoodwink her into a relationship in the hope of pillow talk revealing her knowledge of her father. Just as Tyler enters her life other events begin to occur which push Mackenzie into trusting Tyler more than she probably usually would.

Tyler however does seem to have got himself in a bit of a stuck by falling for the mark much to his brothers annoyance but I just can’t allow myself to fully accept his feeling for Mackenzie under the circumstances.

Tyler, sigh, Tyler Tyler Tyler, I really hope you get to redeem yourself in the second book, along with Alex as Mr B is also in my bad books at the moment too for his behaviour towards Tyler and Mackenzie. I hope it won’t be too long as T has left us hanging on a huge cliff here.

This is the first book in a duet series and is a romantic suspense storyline.

Mackenzie is finally realising her dreams of opening her own restaurant after a decade of struggling to overcome a tragedy from a past relationship. She is a woman in control and nothing will deviate her from her plans and that includes her love life which is currently non-existent. But then she meets sexy Tyler Burnham.

Tyler is on a secret mission and that mission is Mackenzie. He needs to earn her trust in him in order to gather information about her past, or rather someone from her past. But then she becomes more than a target to him, she infiltrates her way into his heart. When she finds out the truth will she feel the pain of betrayal?

I didn’t realise until after I had read this that Tyler is the brother of Alexander from The Beautiful Mess series, however it is so long since I read it that it wouldn’t have mattered if I knew upfront as being brothers appears to be the only connection (so far!).

There was a lot to work out and my mind kept swinging back and forth over who I believed and if the intentions were real. I did find Mackenzie a little hard to understand at times and lost a sense of connection to her character. As for Tyler I kept flitting between love and hate for him that by the end I was all confused!

Overall a good suspenseful romance that ends on a huge cliff hanger leaving me with a multitude of questions and a whole lot of flabbergast! If you love a plot driven by suspense and angst then this is one not to miss!
