Each series comes enclosed in its own slim-line gatefold style box, typically holding 6 or so discs. The discs open to a basically European language choice before offering audio options [German, English, Spanish, French or Italian.], subtitles [as languages and some Scandinavian ones] and episode selection. There is no ‘play all’, so you have to make your selection at the end of each episode, there being typically 4 to a disc.
I only managed to catch the occaisional episode when they aired on Tv, so having them all in a single box set was a real boon. This is the series that made the term Wicca ‘household’ and ‘popular’, helping to spawn a Tv witchcraft/supernatural genre although looking back, the acting in the first few episodes is a bit awkward, but once they all get used to one another it improves markedly.
With all 8 series and containing 178 40-45 minute episodes, this is excellent value for the money. There is some harsh swearing [which I hadn’t noticed first time around] and some sexual themes, this isn’t entirely whole family viewing –which it easily could have been, but remains a good evening 15 rated view.
It was my all time favorite series
I loved the charmed ones especially Piper
I had a crush on Holly Marie Combs
I still do actually
Price is cheap for the entire series
Cheaper than amazon us
Regarding the packaging
It doesn't come in an original box set
Basically, all the series that I've bought from amazon uk come in the same box
The quality of the video is fair as you can see in the image
Overall it's a nice choice for those who loves charmed
I don't regret it
However, I'd say you can tell this box set has been cheaply made. The box is thin card and can easily tear or be bashed around, but at least the discs aren't falling out or being scratched so I'm not too fussed about this. I bought this item in May but had several problems with it which were later corrected by Amazon, but some of them cropped up on my replacement. One or two of the discs, a German or foreign language screen pops up that has no relation to Charmed whatsoever and stays there for thirty seconds or so before it corrects itself, taking you back to the home screen. Now, I'm not too bothered about this as it doesn't ruin the viewing quality...possibly a coincidence it's been on the two box sets I ordered? Another gripe is that there isn't a "play all" feature meaning after every episode, you have to click on the next one. This is a matter of convenience more than anything. It also lacks "special features" (apart from one or two things on the eighth season disc) but historically throughout the Charmed box set history, they've been known for leaving them out much to fans disappointment.
Nevertheless, I still believe this box set is worth the money. All of the subtitles and audio descriptions are perfectly accurate and the viewing quality is great. Definitely a great gift for a die-hard Charmed fan or even if you're not. 5/5!!
One disadvantage is the number of DVD's. One episode is between 200MB and 250MB. Only four episodes per DVD (and some have less than 4), is a waste of DVD space and you're expected to disc jockey these discs all the time.
The other con is that DVDs don't live too long, even if you are careful. After 2 - 5 years they become unreadable. I am not saying "make a backup". Just that the DVDs have a limited shelf life.
