Product Description

About the Author

Kristina Stephenson trained as a set and costume designer. She had a successful career in Theatre and Children’s TV until she had her children. Wanting to stay at home with them, she turned to illustration. She has illustrated many non-fiction books. Inspired to write this picture book by her own son Charlie (who doesn’t have stinky socks), she showed it to a friend in the book trade. Thankfully for us, he recommended that she send it to Egmont. With a change in artwork style, it’s clear that a rare and exciting new picture book talent has emerged. Kristina lives with her husband, who is a musician, and her son and daughter in Wiltshire.

It's our first Charlie Stinky Socks book, so I didn't know what to expect. But I found it too wordy and there didn't seem to be any mention of 'stinky socks' until an implied reference on the last page.

Someone has stolen the princess's teddy bear so Charlie and cohort go in search. He faces his fears and sees scary-seeming things for what they truly are and discovers the mysterious thief.

All well and good - a lesson in seeing past scary things and being brave. It's tricky to read though, with flaps that (if folded wrongly!) need reading in order or it doesn't make sense.

The illustrations are great, very bright and bold and comic-like.

My son liked it but I wasn't a keen reader, though I want to find the first in the series to see if that helps put this in context.

Not one for young toddlers, too wordy, but for 3-4 and above I would say.

Another wonderful book from Kristina Stephenson. I cannot praise it highly enough and both my 3 & 6 year old sons love it (and I do not doubt that girls would as well). The illustrations are wonderful; beautiful colours, a cartoonish style and the most brilliant characterisations of all the people, animals and ghoulies! The layout is very imaginative and Stevenson uses such a clever mix of full page pictures, illustrations amongst the text, flaps, changed orientation and little tricks like words disappearing off the side of the page that you are spellbound from the first page.

To read the book out loud is an absolute joy, it is written in an almost poetic style with masses of alliteration, rhyme and wonderful use of adjectives. She even gives you the sound effects within the text to bring the story alive even more

"Once upon a stormy night there was a tall, tall tower with a pointy roof, a creepy corridor and some rickety, rackety stairs......."

You MUST buy this book!!

My 5-year old son has another book in this series which he loves and when we found there were more, we snapped them up. He loves this one too which appears to be book 2 (?) and so do I. The language is great to read and my son spots loads of things in the illustrations which are very clever, as are the lift up pages.

The pictures are wonderful, the stories are wonderful, and Sir Charlie Stinky Socks is a very bold knight! for girls and boys from the ages of 4 to 7 they have all loved these books.

We bought this book for our 4 year old. He find it highly ammusing and let his amagination run away with him. We have had to read it night after night for the last two weeks. I have now lent it to a friend who has a boy the same age and he also loves it.

We bought the first one as I was getting very very bored with the same bedtime story over and over again and I thought this looked fun. My son is just 3 and this is a great book, we had it for 5 days and he just wants to hear it over and over again so I looked online for others and to my horror there is only one other, so please please please write some more. They are great and I can't help but laugh when my son quotes it before I get there as he just loves charlie stinky socks as a character, absolutely first class fun and with the added excitement of pull out flaps and falling trap doors it is a real hoot at bedtime, although not sure Mum's will be too pleased with little boys having so much fun and excitment before trying to get them to go to sleep.

The front had been drawn on and so I wouldn't have described it as being in excellent condition. I did buy this for a gift and so was disappointed by its exellent description. Good would have been more appropriate.

This book went down a storm with my class of 4 and 5 year olds - they loved it, and so did I!! The page fomatting is very inventive and keeps them guessing; the characters are well drawn and loveable. It isn't at all scary and Sir Charlie is a very kind, sensible and morally upright knight... the language offers lots of opportunities for learning new vocabulary, and flows easily. I thoroughly recommend this and its sister book, ...the Really Big Adventure. I hope there'll be lots more in the series - my children can't get enough of it.
