About the Author
Kristina Stephenson trained as a set and costume designer. She had a successful career in Theatre and Children’s TV until she had her children. Wanting to stay at home with them, she turned to illustration. She has illustrated many non-fiction books. Inspired to write this picture book by her own son Charlie (who doesn’t have stinky socks), she showed it to a friend in the book trade. Thankfully for us, he recommended that she send it to Egmont. With a change in artwork style, it’s clear that a rare and exciting new picture book talent has emerged. Kristina lives with her husband, who is a musician, and her son and daughter in Wiltshire.

Someone has stolen the princess's teddy bear so Charlie and cohort go in search. He faces his fears and sees scary-seeming things for what they truly are and discovers the mysterious thief.
All well and good - a lesson in seeing past scary things and being brave. It's tricky to read though, with flaps that (if folded wrongly!) need reading in order or it doesn't make sense.
The illustrations are great, very bright and bold and comic-like.
My son liked it but I wasn't a keen reader, though I want to find the first in the series to see if that helps put this in context.
Not one for young toddlers, too wordy, but for 3-4 and above I would say.
To read the book out loud is an absolute joy, it is written in an almost poetic style with masses of alliteration, rhyme and wonderful use of adjectives. She even gives you the sound effects within the text to bring the story alive even more
"Once upon a stormy night there was a tall, tall tower with a pointy roof, a creepy corridor and some rickety, rackety stairs......."
You MUST buy this book!!
The pictures are wonderful, the stories are wonderful, and Sir Charlie Stinky Socks is a very bold knight! for girls and boys from the ages of 4 to 7 they have all loved these books.
