This book has a broad range of information on Charles Rennie Mackintosh ranging through his skills, beautifully illustrated.... his French paintings, floral watercolours, his architecture drawn and photographed to show the beautiful details, textile and stencil designs, furniture and leaded glass, the tea rooms and of course The School of ARt.... if you want to find out about Mackintosh and his life, then I would thoroughly recommend this book. It is large but the photos and illustrations support the text and maximise the enjoyment of the subject.

Bought as Xmas Present for a Mackintosh enthusiast, so it was well received and I am reliably informed it contains great information and illustrations of his work.

The author, John McKean, has asked me to point out:

There is considerable confusion on the Amazon website (and perhaps elsewhere) between various books on Mackintosh by John McKean.

This book is a major biography, widely praised in published reviews (and on BBC Radio 4 and Radio Scotland) when new in 2000, now in its 6th edition.
It is reviewed on Amazon by Dr R. Brandon, but his review has unfortunately been attached to at least two DIFFERENT books and not to the correct one at all.

John McKean has also written a general introduction to C R Mackintosh, a 'souvenir guide' (grey based cover); and also an attractive, tiny introduction, a 'gift book. (pink based cover); both are called Charles Rennie Mavkintosh and are published by Colin Baxter .

John McKean has written a Charles Rennie Mackintosh Pocket Guide, now in a 2010 edition, which is the ideal pocketbook for the visitor to Mackintosh's works in Scotland. It bis also published by Colin Baxter.

The present book under review: Charles Rennie Mackintosh: Architect, Artist, Icon, has photographs by Colin Baxter and is published by Lomond Books

All are in print, and each appropriate to a reader's different desires.
