Every year we're inundated with young Great Tits, plus a few Blue Tits and occasional woodpeckers. They always binge through the peanuts I put out in the cheap wire feeders.

This year, with this posh feeder instead of the wire one, a grand total of one bird stopped by for a peck. One. And that one only stayed a few seconds. Is it they hate the feeder, or are they just not around this year?

To be fair, it's not impossible that there were simply no birds in the area this year, but it's a bit difficult to believe that we've had eight years in a row of refilling the peanut feeder twice a day, and this year... nothing. The local Starlings will usually have a go at any feeder and even they avoid the Chapelwood.

The feeder itself is great. Very sturdy and has never fallen apart or fallen off in high winds. It's just not used.

Have gone for three stars as I think it's unfair to rank it any lower, but I'll be going back to the cheapo wire feeders next year.

Not much to shout about. It appears to be fairly robust and weather proof but I'm disappointed that it does not include any perches for the birds to balance on when they are feeding. I've improvised by adding a couple of pieces of dowel, which I removed from a now discarded feeder. The feeding holes are just the right size to allow the birds to peck at the nuts but without them falling out.

I mainly bought it because of the sturdy construction, to date it is still in tacked. Just maybe the squirrels will not destroy this one. It is one in a long line of feeders that they have damaged ot destroyed.

Terrible. The metal loop for hanging the feeder wasn't attached to the feeder at all, I had to tape it into the slots then undo and redo it every time I needed to top it up, which wasn't that often as the birds didn't much care for it either. Went back to a simple mesh wire peanut feeder.

2 key problems with this feeder.
1. Holes are too big making it easy for a sqirrel to get to the nuts inside ( complete fill lasts less than a day)
2. The hanging bracket which also holds the top on is too weak, once again the squirrel found it's way into the contents.
The old design with terracotta top & bottom was a far superior design.

Generally well made and will last but the downside is that the holes are quite large. This allows birds to extract peanuts if slightly small/shrivelled or halved. You will soon realise as you see them going down rapidly. I'm sure the birds don't mind though.
Suggest looking at a feeder with finer mesh.

All the little birds such as the blue tits and long tail tits flock to this and the squirrels sit underneath catching the bits that fall out. Good all round.

Very disappointing product. The holes were too large, allowing peanuts to drop out or be removed whole by the birds. This makes it useless during the nesting season when young birds can choke if fed whole nuts.Consequently I have not yet been able to use it.
