This year, with this posh feeder instead of the wire one, a grand total of one bird stopped by for a peck. One. And that one only stayed a few seconds. Is it they hate the feeder, or are they just not around this year?
To be fair, it's not impossible that there were simply no birds in the area this year, but it's a bit difficult to believe that we've had eight years in a row of refilling the peanut feeder twice a day, and this year... nothing. The local Starlings will usually have a go at any feeder and even they avoid the Chapelwood.
The feeder itself is great. Very sturdy and has never fallen apart or fallen off in high winds. It's just not used.
Have gone for three stars as I think it's unfair to rank it any lower, but I'll be going back to the cheapo wire feeders next year.
1. Holes are too big making it easy for a sqirrel to get to the nuts inside ( complete fill lasts less than a day)
2. The hanging bracket which also holds the top on is too weak, once again the squirrel found it's way into the contents.
The old design with terracotta top & bottom was a far superior design.
Suggest looking at a feeder with finer mesh.

Very good, the peanuts are accessible, but don't disappear too fast. Strong and easy to clean.Published 12 months ago by P.J.C.
Great! Both birds and squirrels can eat from it, but the squirrels can't break itPublished 16 months ago by phoudung
