Statham forgoes the martial arts (mostly) in favour of playing a troubled but seemingly self-confident and hard-nosed police detective faced with a psychotic bank robber and murderer played by Wesley Snipes. But all is not as it seems - which is both the underpinning idea within Chaos theory and also the principle upon which the whole film is based. The hidden patterns don't coalesce into the reality of what actually IS happening until the final few scenes.

As a film, 'Chaos' fluctuates between action and dialogue, but personally I found that to be very effective. Films that are almost all action soon dull or overload the senses, whereas the changes in tempo and tension in 'Chaos' serve to lift you up, let you relax a little, and then hit you again.

If you like films such as 'The Inside Man' or 'The Bank Job', then you are likely to enjoy this. It is certainly worth watching and although not quite worth five stars, it is certainly well worth four.

A film that has sat on the shelf for a few years and that had some finance problems, resulting in a scaled down budget, Chaos is good in some parts but fails to excite.

Jason Statham stars as a suspended cop who is called back into to negotiate with bank robber Wesley Snipes. He is also saddled with a new partner Ryan Philippe.

All three play there stereotypical roles well enough, but Snipes drops out of the film for large portions (as does Statham near the end), and thus most of the action scenes are carried by Philippe.

The chaos theory is supposed to be the main driving device of the plot, but is only referenced a few times and actually quite unnecessary, as the plot could have worked without it.

The plot twists and turns and twists some more, but the pace is uneven with very few action scenes between long strands of talky talky scenes.

Over all not bad, but not enough pace to be a solid thriller and not enough action to be a explosive blockbuster add to that a final denouncement that is not that much of a surprise 'twist' and you've got a movie that was probably a good concept on paper, but quite dull on screen.

I came across this sharp thriller from 2005 ten years late, but better late than never, as they say.
"Chaos" stars laconic action hero Jason Statham as Seattle cop Quentin Connors. Under suspension after a civilian is shot, Connors is recalled to duty and teamed with a new young partner (the very impressive Ryan Phillippe) when a hostage taker at a bank (Wesley Snipes) demands to deal with Connors personally.
Naturally the situation begins to unravel, and we've seen much of what follows often; shoot-outs, car chases, explosions, the "oil and water" cops who turn out to be a great match. However "Chaos" has an edge which lifts it above many of its kind. The dynamic pairing of Statham and Phillippe is complemented by an intelligent script which throws in enough sneaky little twists to keep the viewer hooked. Director Tony Giglio keeps a tight hand on the tiller, and delivers a taut and pacy piece of work which is very well worth seeing.

If you are expecting a big budget, high action, big effects movie then you should probably go and by something else. If you are wanting a high concept, highly convoluterd storyline with many subtle twists and turns then you should probably by something else.

If you are happy with an easy, uncomplicated "thriller" that makes a great Friday/Saturday Night Movie then this is for you.

Anything that has a star line-up of Jason, Wesley & Ryan is not going to set the A list alight. This is a very creditable B movie - small budget, reasonably acted and unsubtle movie.

It begins with a shooting on a bridge, includes a very explosive bank robbery and ends with a slight twist. See it as an ordinary film and this is well worth watching. Statham is good as the cop brought back from suspension at the request of the robbers; Snipes is passable as the main villian and Phillipe is average as the young rookie cop.

Wow this movie is really excellent and keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat right the way through.

I don't believe in giving the game away by telling people the whole plot, suffice to say that the ending of this film is something you will never have imagined and it's a brilliant movie. Get the snacks ready and settle down to watch this.

I've seen this movie loads of times is in my dvd collection am writing a review because of the negative ones about this movie which I can't believe first of all story is predictable but most trillers are I think this is a very intelligent triller goes along at a nice slow pace keeps you watching even though you probably have guessed what happens the star of this movie has to be ryan philippe and only played a supporting role jason statham who says he can't act I think jason is one of the most intelligent actors out there and shows in this movie Wesley snipes well I was kinda suprised he was in this movie but he did a good job of you haven't watched it because of negative reviews ignore them and watch this movie!

Jason Statham is the best actor in this film - let that sink in for a bit, and even he appears to be phoning it in at some points. A highly missable film with an ending you could see a mile away. Also, Snipes' character reveal was far too obvious, why else would they not be showing a specific and arguable somewhat important person... even in passing.
