. Loved the blurb. I love second chances so i purchased my copy as I thought this was right up my alley, and for some of the read, it was. The couple were lovely but at times both needed shaking: he for that stupid toxic friendship with Ava and her exaggerated clinginess, and her for her relationship with a father that was so overdone his suddenly been forgiven made no sense. Chapter after chapter spent suffering the results of his control and in one page he's suddenly wanting to be better? Totally mistimed!
I think the timing and pacing was off because the book was too long in the wrong places. Far too many parts dragged and I found myself skipping paragraphs, then suddenly things, particularly the end , were so rushed it lost impact. Seriously, forgiving the father so quickly just made his prior input to what was in essence the main plotline, a waste of reading time. The friend/ex Ava was unreal. her part so over the top she needed locking up in a psychiatric ward with no sharp objects near her.
The couple as I said were lovely but were made weak leads by being written as gullible. A terrible shame as the basic plot, which has been tried and tested in other books successfully, could have been used yo better effect if made shorter, with more energy given to the couple actually standing up to adversary instead of constantly being blinded to it or making excuses for it.
Its a first read for me by this author, and I don't know if I'll read from her catalog again because the focus on what's important and what's not is just very different to what I like.
All said with respect, but I just didn't like HOW the story was told, even though the actual story had a good plot.
This book is amazing and has the loads of lovable character's from Cherry Grove & Still Creek books. Get your tissues ready and take a ride down Highway 17 switching up lanes full of emotions.

it was amazing
Lots of angst in this intense read, from start to finish it had me glued to the pages with a lump in my throat. So many things go wrong for this young couple, that and their own insecurities. As the years passed though despite both of them being hurt and angry their love doesn't change, still things don't go to plan for them. I loved this story, the raw emotions throughout kept me reading I needed to know the outcome. I hate overbearing fathers that think its their right to order and dictate their children's lives to what suits only themselves, and to look down on your daughter simply because she isn't the son you wished for is just cruel. This author knows how to dig deep into your emotions as you enjoy the stories she writes, pulling your own experiences and feelings to the core. I was lucky enough to be offered the chance of an arc for my honest review and boy am I pleased I was, I have no hesitation in recommending this book. If you like a read that has deep love but lots of angst with it then this is for you, it does have a HEA at the end and no cliff hangers. There are some really great characters as well not just our main couple.
The main characters Brennan and Torrie have many past issues and hurt to overcome in order to move forward. Is forgiveness in the cards for these two? You really need to read this for yourself to find out!! No spoilers from me.
This is an intense, well written, storyline, about second chances, overcoming obstacles, hurt, forgiveness, and most of all love. This author has done an awesome job in writing this beautiful story, and I will certainly be reading more of her work in the future.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book!
