Drake Ramsey, the Earl of Saint Brides is a serious and sober minded man who is letting his work rule his life. He is the Home Secretary answerable only to the Prime Minister. He is going to take his first holiday in years. A few days in the tranquil Yorkshire countryside on his own is just what he needs.
Sarah Tindall only married to get control of half of her dowry. Her husband however double crossed her and lost it all gambling. Now he has been murdered and she is the prime suspect. Running for her life is her only choice.
Our wonderfully stuffy and over organised hero only wanted peace and quiet. He shut his emotions off years ago. If he doesn't let people get close, he can't be hurt when they leave.
Our brash, adventurous and incredibly brave heroine is alone in a foreign country. How can she escape the hangman's noose???
A wonderful addition to the series that is easily read as a stand alone. I will now have to go and get the other books because this was so much fun. Lots of laughs, tears , danger and of romance.
I loved it.

I fell in love with this book, and the Earl, and the setting and oh so much!!!

A fab twisting story set in the 1800's and totally  not my normal genre but it was soooooo lovely and well written, most parts delicately and others with such fierce passion.

The stuffy starchy Earl of Saint Brides has certainly met his match with the wanted Sarah Tindall. I love her character, she seemed so British but so innocent and naive yet gained such strength and was quite funny in parts.

The 2 do wagers gave the book some funny moments and my mental image of their tete-a-tets added to the magic of this period in time.

The balls, the jewels, the dresses, the dashing gents and the cat clawing mothers trying to marry off their daughters!

This book I read as a standalone but is part of a series that I intend to read! Fab, fab, fab!!!

I read this book as an ARC for 2 girls who love books blog in return for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fun entertaining read 28 Mar. 2017

What could be worse than marrying a man that double crossed you and took all your money that you were trying to get your hands on? How about said husband is found dead and they want the hangman rope around your neck swing from a tall tree? Yes that would be about the worse thing until you add you are on the run for your life in a country that isn’t yours. Wow how can things get any worse…it seem they always do.

This was a fast pace thrilling read that hooks you from the first page. As the author takes you from one twist into a turn and back around again you are left holding your breath waiting to see what will happen next.

The characters are wonderful from Drake who is a little stiff under the collar keeping his emotions in check never letting anyone get close but he is about to loosen up a little taking a much needed holiday the first one in years. Sarah must prove her innocence before they put her 6 feet under. She has made a few mistakes one being marrying that no good man she called a husband. When these two meet with one breaking the law the other trying his best to up hold it starts one interesting adventure of mystery, murder, excitement and passion. What you will fine between these pages will give you smiles, jaw dropping as you hang on for the ride.

I really like the way the author brings the plot to life with thrills that pull you in. The buildup of this story from one issue to the next is exciting. It is well written with a wonderful plot. This can be read as a standalone but you will want to read the others after turning the last page. I haven’t read anything by this author but am looking forward to reading more of her work.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars witty dialogue and interesting characters 31 Mar. 2017
By Rhianona - Published on Amazon.com

Sarah Tindall made the greatest mistake of her life, when she agreed to marry her husband. What was supposed to be a marriage of convenience - in exchange for half her dowry, they'd marry and then, once in England, she's be able to use her half to travel without him - became a nightmare when he gambled it all away. Stuck in a foreign country, it only got worse when he is killed in a fire and she was named the number one suspect. When Drake Ramsey - Home Secretary for England - found her in his hunting cabin, neither knew that they'd change the other in fundamental ways.

I wanted to like this more than I did. The characters - both main and secondary - were interesting and had personality. The plot itself was pretty intriguing and fast-paced. And yet, there were a lot of little things throughout the book that keeps me from wholeheartedly recommending it. I thought it took far too long for Sarah to divulge to Drake why someone might want to kill her husband. After initially asserting her innocence, she became more determined to escape Drake than convince him of her innocence. While Sarah was certainly spirited, I did not find her to be an engaging character. I was far more interested in Drake - and perhaps the author was as well, since much more time was spent with him. Not that Drake was perfect - there were at least two instances in which he espoused modern views that perhaps may have been felt by men of his status in that period of time, but still jolted me out of the book. They were also views that did not necessarily have to be mentioned, which may be why they felt so jarring. There were also some scenes that did not seem to serve much of a purpose in the plot - or if they did, were not clearly connected, leaving me wondering why they were included.

Nonetheless, one of the strengths of the book was the banter and dialogue between the characters. It was refreshing to read a book with fast-paced dialogue, characters that seemed to fit the period, and both male and female friendship. I enjoyed the intrigue and action, and liked that Drake and Sarah work together to bring down the villain. While I did not personally love this book in Ms. McLean's Lords of Whitehall Series, it will not keep me from checking out the remaining books in the series, since I found many of the secondary characters pretty interesting.

3.5 stars

NB: I was given a copy of the book from the publisher and have opted to review it.
3.0 out of 5 stars I love romance novels so we always love trying out new ... 8 April 2017

This is a new author for us.I love romance novels so we always love trying out new author's when we came across this novel we were glad to get a chance to find a new author to try out.

I did enjoy the plot of this story. It was a light fun read.I found the character's to be like-able and that they both surprised me every now and then when they did something out of character for them.I liked that fact that Drake was willing to listen to Sarah and not judge her on what other people were saying.I loved the fact he listened to her story and drew his own conclusions.I liked how he was drawn to Sarah yet fought it constantly.I liked seeing him squirm as she was getting under his skin little by little.(Smiles)

I love when I can relate to character's I read about or form a connection to them but, with these two main character's I was not able to do that. There was not one thing that pulled me toward either one of them .Yes I liked several things about each character but nothing that would make me love either one of them.

It was a nice romance read to pass the time.Would I give this author a try again ? Yes, as I did not love it nor hate it.I did enjoy the ending though.

For me I love to fall in love with the character's I read about or at-least love them .I don't like character's that are standoffish and I got this vibe with these character's.However ,I did enjoy getting to know them.I did enjoy the twist in the plot proving Sarah's innocence and I did enjoy the two old ladies who deemed themselves matchmakers.

We are giving this story 3 stars from us!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It! 15 April 2017

'Changing the Earl's Mind' by Kristen McLean is book Three in the "The Lords of Whitehall" series. This is the story of Drake Ramsey, the Earl of Saint Brides and Sarah Tindall. I have not yet read the other books so for me this was a standalone book. Although I enjoyed this one so much I hope to read the others soon!
Sarah is from America and has only been in London for 1 month. Sarah married a man she thought she could trust. They had made a deal that she would get half of her dowry and he would get the other half. This way Sarah though she could live her life independently on her own with her money. But her 'husband' gambled everything they had and left her with nothing. Then someone seem to have killed him and now she is being framed for his death. So Sarah went on the run but it didn't take long for her to be found by Drake.
Drake is in Home Secretary but has take a break and leaves to return to his home. Drake goes by his father's old hunting cabin and finds Sarah there. Drake gets most of her story out of her and even covers for her when the local law comes looking for her. But Drake assures her that she is pretty much in his custody .
Drake has pretty much cut himself off of emotional ties but can he keep that attitude around Sarah when he is finding her the most attractive and interesting women he has met?
Can Sarah convince him to believe her?
