About the Author

THE HOLLOW HEART - shortlisted for Best Author Published Reader Award. (Festival of Romance 2013) A CHANGE OF HEART - The standalone sequel to The Hollow Heart, available in paperback and Kindle - November 2013 Adrienne Vaughan has been making up stories since she could speak; primarily to entertain her sister Reta, who from a very early age never allowed a plot or character to be repeated - tough gig! As soon as she could pick up a pen, she started writing them down. No surprise she wanted to be a journalist; ideally the editor of a glossy music and fashion magazine, so she could meet and marry a rock star - some of that came true! And in common with so many, she still holds the burning ambition to be a 'Bond Girl'.

Following on from events in The Hollow Heart, Ryan O’Gorman returns to the beautiful island of Innishmahon with his baby son, Joey, much to the shock and amazement of Marianne Coltrane. Their relationship hasn’t been without its ups and downs but Ryan is determined this time he’s back for good. Unfortunately it’s not so simple. Ryan’s movie contract is for three pictures, he’s only made one. He brings more turmoil in his wake in the form of his troubled and trouble making ex-wife, Angelique de Marcos. It seems the peaceful, settled life he and Marianne are looking forward to is not going to materialise any time soon.

To make matters more complicated Angelique is Franco Rossini’s niece. Rossini, with whom Ryan is contracted, is one of the most influential of film producers with connections that are decidedly dodgy. An old friend of Ryan’s, Dermot Finnegan, makes an appearance on the island, ostensibly as captain of the planned Life Boat station. Returning to the island after an absence of many years, Erin Brennan causes a stir amongst the residents. All is not as it seems in this tiny corner of Ireland; there are shocks, sadness and romance in store, not to mention surprises, drama, intrigue and conspiracy.

It was lovely to get reacquainted with the residents, old and new, of Innishmahon, not to mention the island itself, and catch up with the community dynamics. Again, the sense of place is tangible, the descriptions evocative. I like how each character is relevant to the story, and develops as the story progresses. All are well drawn, realistic, colourful and individual. Dialogue and characterisation, as previously, are excellent. There was a scene in the first book which brought tears to my eyes and there’s another in this one. Thankfully it doesn’t end in the same way.

Although the blurb describes this as a standalone book, I would heartily recommend reading the first book in the series - The Hollow Heart - before reading this one, if only to get a real feel for the characters and their history and, most importantly, Inishmahon itself, which is the real star of these novels. The author has created a community in Inishmahon that is totally believable, filled with colourful, very human characters who you very quickly warm to. At times I almost forgot that I was reading a book set in a fictional location, as Inishmahon came to life in such a way that really made me want to go and book B&B in Maguires for a few nights and sample the laid back Irish lifestyle.

We rejoin Marianne and Ryan to discover how life treats them after events in The Hollow Heart. As is to be expected, nothing is going to be plain sailing, especially when Ryan's ex wife Angelique suddenly appears on the island, most definitely with trouble in mind. What follows is a story full of drama, with intrigue, passion, double dealing and danger definitely on the agenda here. It is a very good read that you can get totally lost in and certainly it kept me turning pages wanting to know what happened next. It is a book that had me smiling quite a lot and even crying a little at one point.

I have to say this really is a first class read.

A Change of Heart is the second book in the Heartfelt series, I fell in love with the Island of Innishmahon and the colourful people who lived there in the first book "The Hollow Heart". So I was delighted to find the second book took place on the island once more. Carrying straight on from where the first book ended the story heads right in with Ryan stepping off of the ferry with his young son.

On top of the vital repairs to the only bridge to the island, which was washed away in a storm, there are now plans to have a Life Boat station on the island too. Dermot Finnegan takes the role of Life Boat Captain as a disguise for some undercover police work which he has signed up for.

For a tiny island off of the Irish coast it certainly draws everyone's attention. Superstar actress Angelique de Marcos arrives in a whirl of glamour to challenge Ryan for custody of their son. Erin Brennan is also returning to the island after a long period of absence and she too has her own secret agenda.

Throw in to the mix a Halloween Hooley, robbery, freedom fighters and some brand new relatives, it all has journalist Marianne Coltrane at breaking point, but letting the Emerald Isle work its magic, gives more than one person a second chance.

Romance, Ireland and great characters at their best, I can't wait for the third book in the series.

I really enjoyed reading The Hollow Heart and went straight on to reading this second book in the series. The main character, Marianne, continues to develop and there are ever more ups and downs in her relationship with Ryan. Thoroughly entertaining and I was straight on to Book 3 to find out what happens next.

This book is like an Irish stew, warming, full of interesting ingredients and when finished, totally satisfying. Adrienne Vaughan takes the reader back to the Irish island of Innishmahon in this her second book. Journalist Marianne Coltrane has stayed on the island after her lover, film star, Ryan O'Gorman had returned to the States to continue his career.
He returns unexpectedly with his young son in tow, determined to confirm their relationship, but he brings problems in his wake. A wife who is flaky and the niece of the film's producer who has his own desperate need to finish the three films that Ryan has just walked away from because his life depends on it. The wife also wants her pound of flesh. The problems mount.
Once again, Adrienne has written with her own inimitable Irish flair. Her characters are unforgettable as is the wonderful Irish background. The plot holds the reader with its twists and turns but will Marianne and Ryan be strong enough to overcome all that life throws at them? Read the book and find out!
