What a delightful love story. Ben and Shiloh have both been hurt in their previous relationships and don't want anything serious. That is difficult given the times since it isn't modern days. Their chemistry and attraction is immediate. That scares the both of them but a town epidemic put them in close quarters since Ben is the town DR. and Shiloh goes to help him take care of the sick. When they finally reveal their love for each other Ben finally tells her about his past. Shiloh is shocked but wants to be there for him. She's know that the only way they can move forward is to help him find closure so she puts an ad in the paper to look for his family w/o his knowledge. That's all I'm going to tell say, you'll have to read the book for yourself. LOL
It was a wonderful story with several other characters intertwined through it. It's part of a series but can be read as a stand alone.
Shiloh was married at only 15 to a much older, vicious man who kindly left her a pregnant widow at 22. She leaves his big house and moves to Hidden Springs. The first person she meets in town is the town doctor, Ben and there is an instant attraction between the two. Shiloh isn't looking for another husband, she didn't care for her first one very much, and doesn't want to acknowledge the attraction.
Ben doesn't share much of himself with his friends, he once had a daughter and a wife who left him and took his child away with her. He is scared to get his heart broken again. He is falling for Shiloh and her child and he doesn't know what to do about it.
Good conflict in the story, didn't feel contrived, felt real for the time. It would be terrible to have a wife and child somewhere in the world and have no idea where they are and no contact. Shiloh and Ben had lovely chemistry and I honestly enjoyed being a part of their lives for a time. There were a couple of passionate scenes - nothing too erotic or sensual. I would recommend this book for historical romance readers who enjoy romances set in the old west.
The attraction between Shiloh and Ben was not explained well, for Doc was a confirmed bachelor and have basically rebuffed every single lady in town (and a few married ones too). Yet Shiloh's arrival triggered a memory in him that cannot be denied. As for Shiloh, she wasn't used to men being NICE to her... having never really experienced it, though she had definitely fantasized about it. You know the pair will come together, and it's the journey that's the fun
