Champ Car for those who weren't familiar with it, was an open wheel racing series based in the United States. The cars looked a little like Formula 1 cars but the series and the teams ran on a fraction of the budget of F1. The consequence of this was that the drivers and teams were a lot less focused on big title sponsors and much more open to the fans. The racing was close and hugely competitive as all teams ran the same cars. The result was real entertainment.

Sadly this DVD fails to capture that excitement. Using Champ Cars own pictures and international TV commentary the DVD is simply a cut down version of the broadcast you may have seen on Satellite TV. There are no DVD extras or behind the scenes features you will find on Formula 1's excellent DVD.

The commentary for 13 of the 14 rounds is provided by Jeremy Shaw with the excellent Rick Benjamin's US TV commentary only being heard on the Montreal race.

As of 22nd February 2008, the Champ Car World Series ceased operations and merged into the rival Indy Racing League. This DVD along with the 2007 review, now form a memory of a much missed series.

champ car was by far the best racing series in america and it's a pity it no longer exists but this dvd is a great way to look back it has great racing and commentating and actually shows longer highlights per race than the F1 dvd reviews.

I haven't been able to watch Champcars for a while since i haven't got Sky. So watching this review was quite refreshing.

It's quite good overall because it doesn't bore you to death, i think it's got the right mixture of everything, maybe more interviews and background information would be appreciated. But the racing is exciting!

At last Duke Video give in to popular demand and produce a review of the champ car world series, the first since Nigel Mansell took the states by storm back in 1993.

I have to say this is the best review on the market, the amount of action condensed into four hours is highly impressive and yet they manage to be very informative as well. The commentary is excellent and highly entertaining, the footage of Paul Tracy's brawl with Alex Tagliani is here in full and uncensored and you can clearly hear Tag swearing his head off at Paul which must have somehow slipped by the editing team. His hilarious altercation with Sebastien Bourdais at the very next race is included too.

Some of the races jump around quite dramatically but thats understandable given the time constraints and all the best bits are included.

The only real error is at the Toronto round where the race randomly cuts out on the final lap and jumps straight to the next round presumably due to an editing error.

This is a minor flaw however and I find myself returning to this review more than any other.

Excellent, more like this please Duke!
