SHAFT: I have slim calves and found that the shaft still had plenty of room. It was not difficult to put on or pull off; Ugg boots are much more difficult to remove than these.
COLOR: I ordered "Olive", anticipating it would look lighter and more like an olive green, but it looks dark green; I still love the color.
LINING: Fully lined with a soft plaid fabric.
DURABILITY & COMFORT: Quality is excellent. It's comfortable, though the sole is mildly stiff.
WEIGHT: The base of the boot feels slightly heavy, but it's comparable to any other high-quality rain boot; it doesn't feel any heavier than any other rain boot.
VALUE: The boot is priced fairly for the quality, construction, comfort, and style.
I wore these hiking with two pairs of thickish running socks (some steep terrain as well as flat) and they were so comfortable, even though I felt my heel slipping out a few times. I really enjoyed standing in the lake at the end of the hike, while my husband watched from the shoreline! They kept my feet warm and dry and comfortable, so I would recommend these, but in a smaller size. I ordered a pair of Smartwool socks to wear with these, so I will see if that helps when I get them.
Update Feb 24/14: I now wished that I had purchased a full size smaller in these boots. I normally wear a Euro size 37 (6 to 6-1/2), so if I had ordered that size, it would have been a perfect fit. I made a mistake in ordering the US 37 as these are too large, even with thicker socks.
They fit a 15" calf, but don't expect them to be loose. The ankle is slimmer than other rubber boots. The rubber also feels softer, more flexible. (If you have really slim legs, I suggest the Vierzon Lady because they will be more flattering. They have a slit at the top which allows room for larger calves, but the fit will be snug. The Country All Tracks doesn't give at top, but is larger around.)
Personally, I think European sizes are odd. To me, these boots fit like a 7 1/2. In a flat shoe, I buy a 7. (In a pump, I buy a 6 1/2, otherwise, the heel slips.) In a running shoe, I buy an 8 for extra space. I usually buy a 38 in a European boot. My Aldo boots are 38. My Aldo 38 fit just like the La Chameau 38. I like a little space in boots because I wear socks with them. I tried on a Le Chameau 37 in London, and I think I could have worn them with a thin sock, but my toe was at the end, and I wouldn't have been happy. I'm happy with the 38.
Overall, all the reviews were right that these boots fit 1/2 size smaller than normal US sizes. Unfortunately, my calves were too large for the fitted boot.
I typically wear a size 8 in everything, and was a little nervous when the boots felt a little snug, but it turns out I wouldn't have wanted them any bigger. They hugged my foot just right with enough wiggle room. Overall very happy with my purchase and looking forward to wearing these boots in the rainy season.
