It gets even better if you use REVERB on your Android phone, linking in to you Echo account, you can use your phone to control the echo - awesome - I even have it all linked to lights in the house and office that Alexa can control instantly.
However, there are some downsides to this technological breakthrough - I wanted to buy another Echo, maybe 2, but after speaking to Amazon, only 1 can play the music on my Prime account, and there is no way (without paying £15 a month extra and using multiple accounts) to make all the Echo's play the same tunes - It would be awesome if we could fill our homes and gardens with the same music piping form multiple Echo's, but we cannot :/ So for that it's back to my Sonos DNLA speakers and that brings me to point 2, there is no DNLA on the Echo, really crazy to miss that off when so many people have now invested in NAS's for the home and office - We use Synology which have a great music app and it can cast to everything on DNLA so if Echo had that too, it would be incredible and also then it would be feasible to own 2 or more on one Prime account.
When I am playing music, if I say "Alexa, play chillout pop songs" she cannot find any, but if I say "Alexa, play chill out pop" she then says "playing chilled out pop songs"; that really annoys me as it happens all the time, do not say songs on the end.
For the most part the Echo is brilliant, but there are issues, one is with the Radio player at the moment, which is apparently being addressed, but it's been like this for 2 weeks.
It is getting better and new stuff is added al the time apparently so if you like your mucic and you love technology then treat yourself, just be prepared for a few bugs on the way, but new technology is always the same.
Why didn't I buy this sooner,
What an absolutely amazing device,
Sound is perfect and the Alexa is just excellent,
This was a refurb unit for £50 cheaper than new item
And I honestly couldn't tell it wasn't new when it arrived
Only giveaway was the refurbished sticker,
Overall I'm super happy with this little gem.
If they advertise a refurb product as, "tested to look and work like new" as this Echo is described, you can be sure that this is the case.
The Echo we ordered arrived in the full retail packaging and still with the plastic coverings on the adapter etc.
The unit itself is completely unblemished.
Having had it for a few days, it's been tested in operation, including a very brief moment at maximum volume to ensure there's no speaker distortion.
Everything went well and you have the additional security of the same 1 year warranty enjoyed by the new products.
If you're looking for a 1st gen Echo, don't hesitate to purchase one of these Refurbs.
Good service from Amazon both for delivery and after sales support.
