Fliss our heroine is great, practical and recovering from a relationship which ultimately meant different things to both parties. I also loved Jason, and Charlotte, the Chatelaine of the Chateau.
The setting is beautiful and in the acknowledgements, Jo Thomas talks about being inspired by Escape to the Chateau, which follows Brits moving to France and renovating Chateaus.
The food aspect concerns the growing and eating of apples which feature heavily in a number of recipes. As an extra Brucie bonus, Jo Thomas has helpfully added some recipes I can confirm that the Normandy Chicken is de-lic-ious.
The story is lovely. It is a time for healing for all of our characters and the town they live in. This is a lovely novel, set at Christmas and set in a foreign land, it’s so cosy.
Wonderful characters, i truly hope there is another to follow!
That said it was a lovely book with a sweet plot. I just wished i could have felt connected as i had with her other books.
But Chateau Des Arbres carries more than one secret and more than one hitch along the way. Fliss soon discovers the locals are less than happy to see her and they are not going to make her quest easy.
Full of autumnal warmth, apples, food and lashings of apple brandy, this book is an absolute delight to read. This is the perfect jaunt through France and a wonderful easy read to see you through the evenings as the weather begins to turn. My only downfall is, I can’t make a Jo Thomas book last longer than 2 days. And so I go back to waiting for the next one to appear.
If you want an easy, light read, this is it.
