This book gave me more than I have got from all of my other books together. It is also very handy to use when you work
Full of different techniques and ideas, some I liked some I didn't but all have been fun and above all liberating to try. Much of it is very "hands on" and wonderfully messy with unpredictable outcomes. It put the fun and excitement back into my artwork. I may never be anything but a photorealist painter whenworking seriously but this book has been a star buy and is wholeheartedly recommended for artists of all stages.
There's sections on basic theoretical principles of composition, colour etc which are clearly and breifly explained, with example illustations. There are also detailed step-by-step tutorials on creating different textures and then painting on them, to produce interesting finished works.
All of it is presented in a very user-friendly way with plenty of photos, and the book is hardback and spiral-bound so you can prop it up open as you work.
This is one of my favourite practical art books (and I have quite a collection).
