As a massive fan of Disney shorts from the 30's to the 60's this DVD was amazing. Both the sound & visual quality is outstanding & yes, it even includes subtitles. This DVD also has a running time of 50mins, not the 45mins it says on the Amazon website.
Santa's Workshop, 10th December 1932
The Night Before Christmas, 3rd Dec 1933
On Ice, 28th September 1935
The Cookie Carnival, 25th May 1935
Pluto's Christmas Tree, 21st November 1952
Donald's Snow Fight, 10th April 1942
Ferdinand The Bull, 25th November 1938
The 2 modern animated cartoons include "Donalds Snow Fight" and "Plutos Christmas Tree". These were both very good and fun to watch. Other older animations include "Santas Workshop", "The night before Christmas", which were my sisters favoutites, "On Ice, which is about all the disney characters having fun on a frozen lake", "Cookie Carnival" and "Ferdinand The Bull" which dosent have anything to do with Christmas but all the others do.
In all this DVD is a nice Christmas collection that gies you Christmas spirit. For a more modern Christmas animation i would recommend Mickeys Once Upon A Christmas, but for people who still love those original disney animations this is a great DVD to buy.
The Night Before Christmas - 1933
On Ice - 1935
The Cookie Carnival - 1935
Pluto's Christmas Tree - 1952
Donald's Snow Fight - 1942
Ferdinand The Bull - 1938
Ok, you get Donald, Pluto, Mickey and Minnie on this DVD. The real finds however are the shorts from 1932 and 1933. If your only experience of Disney is from the 90s onwards, then this may not be for you. If, on the other hand you're interested in the history of Disney then I would heartily recommend it. It's just great to see these old cartoons cleaned up. They stand up to todays cartoons in terms of quality but do look a bit old-fashioned compared to the cartoons of today. Therein lies the charm of this DVD. Unfortunately there are scenes that have been cut as Disney, in our more enlightened times, don't want to offend anyone. This will not spoil your enjoyment though.
For the price this is a great stocking filler
The true classics are Pluto and the chipmunks (fooling around the christmas tree) and best of all - Donald's snow fight which is a lot of fun. There's a charming older Mickey and Minnie on ice cartoon.
The others are the more the early style of cartoon, without the classic disney characters and instead with gingerbread man parades, jolly old santa claus etc etc. All good cartoon nostalgia in that good old tv shaking 1930's style.
Overall : enjoyable, sweet and very christmassy christmas viewing.
Love Pluto's Christmas Tree with the Chipmonks and Donald's snow fight.
A little confusing re Ferdinand The Bull - this has nothing to do with Xmas.
Let me also add that I am an animation history buff and the older Disney/Silly Symphony shorts are considered classics as well as sentimental. I own many of the Disney Master collections, yet "Santa's Workshop" and "The Night Before Christmas" are not available restored.
"Pluto's Christmas" is a Holiday must see. "On Ice" and "Donald's Snow Fight" are great Winter-themed shorts and still put me in the Christmas mood.
The only negatives I have is that "Santa's Workshop" has been edited to remove a potentially racial sequence that I can live without (and see on YouTube if I have to) and "The Cookie Carnival" and "Ferdinand the Bull" do not have anything to do with Christmas or Winter which a little puzzling, but I am an animation buff and they both are spectacular viewing, but not at Christmastime.
To anyone from the US like me, this DVD is Region 2 only. That means your Region 1 DVD player will not play this. There is a work-around, but it means breaking the encoding on the disc and copying it to your computer, which I'm not advising anyone to do. But let me point out that the seven shorts are all on one title track with chapter markers (and you may further need to split them as well).
This is a great collection and I am glad it is available.
