5.0 out of 5 stars The Suspenseful love 2 Feb. 2014

Cavanaugh Hero: Was a very touching, suspenseful and loving book. Marie did it again with her Cavanaugh books , I got the book when it was released yesterday and I read it in one day. I could not put it down. I love the Cavanaugh family like they are real. I always look forward to the next. It was sad and I cried but it was so touching in so many was and I just loved it. The romance was just right and it was good to see that Charley and Declan found love because they deserve it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak Novel 24 Sept. 2015
By Kate MacKay - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
The plot of this novel has police detectives Declan Cavanaugh and Charley Randall trying to catch a serial killer. I found this to be a weak novel. First, the setting was generic. I got no feel for where this was taking place. I think it was supposed to be California, but it could just as well have been Anywhere, USA. I prefer the novels I read to have a distinct setting. Secondly, this didn’t quite work as a mystery, police procedural, or romance. Lastly, the whole thing was unrealistic, even from this genre. I finished the novel, so it wasn’t awful, but it was rather bland.
5.0 out of 5 stars suspense and romance with a touch of action 28 Mar. 2014

I really enjoyed this book. As I read I kept thinking, that this must be, what it is like to be a detective. Hours and hours of searching for clues, talking to people, research on the computer. Hoping to find that one clue that will break the case wide open. The suspense was really good.
I could feel the deep heart wrenching emotions when Charley found her brother dead. She vowed she would find the person that killed her brother. She talked Declan into letting her work the case with him. Declan didn't know that Matt was her brother at the time, and Charley knew she had to hide that fact or she would be off the case. Charley's brother was the first policeman to die from a serial killer. The serial killer was picking off the police force, one body at a time. Declan, and Charley were working against the clock. They had to find, and bring down this serial killer before he killed again.
I loved the chemistry, and friendship between Declan, and Charley. The friendship built and developed over the course of the book. They have known each other since the academy. Declan was a play boy back then, and Charley steered clear of him. She wanted to focus on her career, so she pretended to be married by wearing a cheap gold band. Now that they are partners, the chemistry simmers. They both tried to hold back. As the stress of the case mounted, along with the dead end leads, and long hours, they gave into temptation. They shared one explosive kiss, that led to another, then another... The romance was perfect in this action, suspense story.

I loved Declan's big family in this book. They were always there with open arms. Humor also laced through the pages of this story. There were many times I laughed, as I read this book.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good thriller, strong characters, but left some questions unanswered 20 Feb. 2015
By Hope This Helps - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Rating 3.5 __Some sexual content (none graphic).
Stand alone read. 24th in Cavanaugh Justice series.

GOOD READ. Well written, intense storyline, strong characters, feisty dialogue, great secondary cast, strong family theme, and a sweet, almost, gentle romance. HOWEVER, it is difficult to believe the killer was able to surveil each of the victim's habits and move so quickly (three bodies in two days), and there is no explanation as to how or why the killer chose the victims, nor their connection to the triggering event. These are minor flaws, but they do detract a little from the storyline.

THE STORY brings together narcotics police officer, Charlotte "Charley" Randolph and homicide police detective, Declan Cavanaugh as they take on a serial killer who is murdering police officers. Charley finds the first cop victim, her half brother Matt, who is her only remaining family. When Declan arrives on the scene to take over the investigation, she conceals this relationship from him in order to work the case. Within 24 hours, Matt's death is followed by two more, and the hunt for a serial killer takes on great urgency. As Charley and Declan work together, they learn the other is a talented detective and a person they can depend on, and a deep connection forms (bpl).

OVERALL, compelling storyline, smart and focused characters, and a sweet romance makes for a engaging read. CAVANAUGH JUSTICE is a series of 29 books, starting with Racing Against Time (2003).

You may also enjoy the complex characters and storytelling of N. Bruhns, A. Stuart, and E. Palfrey. For good mystery/detective writers you might try J. D. Robb, D. Stabenow, S. Grafton, S. Sala, Gayle Wilson, and Julie Miller.
