- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 March 2006Before you buy this stunning book, you have to review exactly where your current relationship with your cat is. I did an extremely foolish thing in that I read excerpts from this book aloud to my cat while she was curled up on my lap. What a mistake!! I now have a 15 year old gorgeous baby who owns my house and my life. What a shame she doesn't pay the mortgage!!
There is a saying: "The Egypyians worshipped cats as Gods. Cats have never let us forget this". Believe me, it's true.
All cat owners (borrowers) should own this book. It's funny, sad, insightful, educational, and an amazing glimpse into the mind of one of the most stunning creatures on this planet. After reading this, you will never look at your cat in the same way again. Outstanding stuff from a great writer.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 November 2007A thoroughly enjoyable and educational read. Hall tells us about each of her cats in turn using their stories to illustrate the case histories and catty advice that she offers on subjects such as aggression, toilet problems and euthanasia. Some of the stories had me laughing out loud, others moved me to tears. There were a few things I disagreed with - I think cats *are* social animals although some prefer their own company while Hall sees the majority being in the latter catagory - but this was an illuminating look at the world of the animal behaviourist told with humour and sensitivity.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 November 2016I was recommended this book by my landlady, as I was adopting a kitten that she had fostered. It was a terrific read! Many people apparently misunderstand their cats' wants and needs, and this book explains a lot of these issues. It will be particularly useful for those who are experiencing behavioural issues with their cats - several scenarios are explained along with solutions that worked. Ms Halls writes with compassion and levity, this is a fun read even if you are not having any cat problems!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 November 2014Some fantastic insights which have really helped me understand our indoor cat and her needs better.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 November 2017As a cat lover who has lived with cats of all sorts all my life, I found this book fascinating and have learnt a lot. We will be adopting two quite timid cats very soon. I hope that what I've learnt will help us to be better able to see things from the perspective of our adoptees and help them to settle. If you are a cat lover, I STRONGLY recommend this book
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 July 2019Having had my cat for nearly a year, some of her behaviour I found intriguing and this book certainly gave me some helpful tips and insights on the feline mind. I definitely made me look at things differently and will help me and my cat have many happy years together!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 January 2016For every cat lover out there you have to read this book, its had me and my partner laughing out loud and in some places glassy eyed! We have learned a lot about our cats and how to solve some issues that might arise. Go on buy it you won't be disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 April 2016A fascinating and really helpful insight into car behaviours. I bought this book due to issues with my own moggie, and have since applied some of the techniques Vicky recommends in the book. They are working and we have a happier (and less attacked) household as a result.
