This is one of the most beautiful video games ever. An epic adventure in an unforgettable journey. Great graphics stunning settings and monsters always very well characterized .... a gameplay always engaging and never frustrating ..... And a longevity important for this kind of videogames about 20 hours to finish the whole ......

It is so refreshing to see a game that has said "no" to multiplayer and really got back to basics.
A nice solid story line, with the odd cliche here and there, but I suppose that is hard to achieve these days when pitting good against evil as its all been done before. However, Catlevania has some good references to myth and story with characters like "pan" and "frankenstien" giving parts of the story a familiarity as you embark on a epic quest across the land. Which will see you into the 20 hour region (as single player games should be, not 5-6 hours like other similar titles)
One let down to the story is the voice acting. Even with actors such as Patrick Stewart and Robert Carlyle the dialogue seems to be a bit flat and without feeling. I wouldnt say the voice acting is bad, I just expected a bit better from the talent behind the mic.

The gameplay is fast paced hack'n'slash adventure much like god of war. The more enemies you kill/puzzles you solve, the more points you earn to buy upgardes for your primary/secondary weapons and magic abilities. There is light and dark magic. Light magic makes your attacks return health points to you with every sucessful strike, dark magic makes your attacks more powerful. Also, you can link together blocks, dodges and successful hits to gain "focus". Whilst in focus every succesful strike will offer up and orb to help refill your magic. This gives the combat a nice mix of tactics as if you are low on health and light magic you really need to get your focus which means slowing down and getting your blocks and dodging perfect. As the game takes you on a large scale adventure you will come across plenty of differnt enemies in all shapes and sizes from little forest goblins to giant titans and everything inbetween.

Taking a classic franchise in a new direction is always dangerous, but Konami should be praised for giving free reign to European developer Mercury Steam who came up with `Castlevania: Lords of Shadow'. The game is based on the same mythos as the classic franchise, but sits separately. You play as Gabriel Beaumont and must travel the lands of werewolves, vampires and warlock (singular) to gain access to the ultimate power and prevent evil inheriting the Earth. The game is a 3rd person action platformer with more than a smattering of `God of War' about it, with a sprinkling of `Shadow of the Colossus' thrown in for good measure.

Incorporating ideas from two of the best game franchise of the past 10 years is no bad thing and `Castlevania' works well. The combat is fun and as you progress the moves evolve. I also liked the platforming elements, although sometimes the item collecting level design was a little 16 bit gaming for my liking. The game looks brilliant with lush graphics and come truly epic set pieces, perhaps the most impressive actually appearing towards the start of the game.

There is a stellar voice cast, although Patrick Stewart sounds like he has given up the will to live with some of the awful dialogue. With `Castlevania', `Enslaved' and `Vanquished' all out within weeks of one another the fan of third person action games need not go wanting in Christmas 2010. `Lord of the Shadows' is a fun game that is very lengthy and full of hidden extras. A real bargain of a game that deserves to be praised; despite its minor flaws and lack of true originality.

Lots of people have called it a God of War set in europe, i haven't played God of war but if its anything like this I'm buying a Playstation. one of the most enjoyable story lines i have played from an Xbox 360 game, with great voice acting and a really cool methodical europe setting (vampire werewolf's etc). The gameplay is very linear and being a man who enjoys open world games this put me off at first with the lack of exploration. but that is not what this game is about. The graphics are insane with a variety of different environments from mountain peaks to bleak sewers and flipping epic woodlands and castles. Sooo much better than the originals and yet it keeps very true to them with original music and such. but thats not important! This game is a good! many hours long but man did it go fast! the Battles are insane! you fight like these huge stone titans in which you have to climb to kill (which is soooo epic!) and the cinematic fight scenes which get you involved with timed button taps are so freaking cool! and they happen all the time! The first level will put you off but play through it to experience one of the best one player action games around. though there are many puzzles which are litterally impossible to figure out so don't feel guilty about getting tips from the walkthrough of the internet. with an awesome story, and epic battles, incredible scenery and challenging but enjoyable puzzles. get it now. so epic. trust.
