I've owned this rescue red model for about 4 years now and it's still running strong. I still wear it around the clock, I wear it every time I go swimming (twice weekly on average). It's been up Mount Fuji, survived festivals and rock gigs......It has been a joy to own.
The two reasons I bought this watch is because of the colour. The red is really bright, its scarlet red, (i was worried that some of the pictures/videos i'd seen made the watch look reddy-orange. But it is definately red.)
The second reason was the display. My old G shock was an analogue/digital, and the minute hand would sometimes cover the digital display.
The display on this model is really clear, and the backlight makes it very easy to read with the blue glow.
I'm afraid, being abit older, I don't have much use for the moon and tide functions. If I bought this when I was a kid i'm sure I could tell you alot more about them.
A few things to note: The watch is quite chunky, a few mm's thicker than my old G Shock, and that wasn't exactly slim to begin with, but I did get used to the size after a few days.
No one should deny buying this based on the point I just made unless its a really big issue for you personally. You get used to the size, and the watch is not heavy or uncomfortable.
Also the strap has been stained a little as my workplace isnt the cleanest of environments, but its not too visable compared to a white watch I once owned.
All in all, i'm very happy with this watch, the features I do use work perfectly, its stylish, and being a G Shock, its practically indestructable.Read more ›
I don't love the colour, but as that's just down to personal taste, I have still given it five stars.
When setting the time correctly (to ensure that the World clock displays the correct times too), I had to use the instruction manual, which is not normally the case. The manual is quite thick and not laid out particularly well, which can make it a little confusing, but with a small amount of perseverance you can get it set pretty quickly.
I'd certainly recommend this watch, especially at the current price (£66).
First of all, this is supposed to be a "rescue" watch, so it's really (really) BRIGHT RED. Has a lot of functions (and a little bit difficult to set), like moon/tide, world time, 4 alarms, timer, 2 stopwatches, it's backlit. The main screen shows the time (obviously ;)), date, the moon phase on the left, the two stopwatches on the right and the tide just below the day.
This is the perfect watch for you if you're like me and don't pay too much attention to it through the day, as it's tough and you can't scratch it in a million years. I have a few watches for special occasions, but this I wear everyday, work, travel, business, everything, looks good, stands out from the "all grey/black" crowd of watches, it's nearly indestructible, what else do you need?? Oh, right, it's 20 bar water resistant (that's 200m!), enough for you??
P.s. The big difference between the two 7900 models is the "tough solar" system, meaning that this one has a lithium battery instead of being solar powered, but for me it's not a problem, I have G-Shocks from 7 years ago still running on the same battery...!
