Confound you, Liz Hedgecock! You are the cause of my lack of sleep. I just wanted to read a few pages before settling down for the night, and ended up reading the whole thing, which left me tired and cranky in the morning! And it's all your fault for writing such a fantastic story. You could have written a boring drag of a story, which I would have had no difficulty in putting down, but no. You had to write a piece that I couldn't help but see through to the end. You could have turned out two cardboard cutout with familiar names, but you have instead captured the essence of Holmes and Watson perfectly, and this miniature masterpiece evokes the very best of ACD's triumphs. I'm reminded particularly of Hound of the Baskervilles, for obvious reasons, and it's a brilliantly crafted tale worthy of the great man himself. I'm only glad it isn't any longer than it is, otherwise I'd have had no sleep at all...

I enjoyed this. All such writers understandably try to recreate the prose and style of the original canon but not all succeed. Liz Hedgecock has managed to do so.

My one misgiving was at the end where the main protagonist has overcome her partner in crime in a manner which I thought was stretching feasibility. But, that apart, I enjoyed the book.

I also very much enjoyed the teaser for the next one as well. Good idea that. Gets you hooked.

Ms Hedgecock is, for the moment, the new provider of my regular Holmes fix. As good as any I've read in a while.

Having enjoyed previous Sherlock themed books from this author I was not disappointed. I usually work out whodunnit but this one totally surprised me (I had to read the pages a few times to let it sink in!) A great atmospheric read that made me feel like I was a fly on the wall. Buy it!!

A Brilliant short pastiche to while away half an hour on a cold winter night. Well written a firm nod to the Canon.

Liz Hedgecock captures Watson's voice beautifully, and in this short thriller she also captures the Sherlock air of mystery. A worthy case for the great detective.
