Format: Paperback
BearManor Media presents "THE CASE FILES OF THE ORIENTAL SLEUTHS: CHARLIE CHAN, MR. MOTO & MR. WONG" (Paperback) - Written by David Rothel, who gave us such good works as The Gene Autry Book [Hardcover], Richard Boone: A Knight Without Armor in a Savage Land, Those Great Cowboy Sidekicks, Lash LaRue, King of the Bullwhip, The Roy Rogers Book: A Reference : Trivia Scrapbook - mostly in the western film history/biography genre.

In the words of David Rothel (author) -- "During the past couple of years while examining the careers of these super sleuths, I have had the opportunity to explore the dark alleys, the exotic locales, the clues, the red herrings, and the sinister suspects these Oriental sleuths encountered in their murder investigation's through the decade - the case files of Charlie Chan, Mr. Moto and Mr. Wong. I invite you now to join them in their exploits, whether for the first time or for a return visit. It Looks as if it's going to be a dark and stormy night in the mysterious environs where these capers will take you, so put on your trench coast and snap brim fedora as you join the Oriental sleuths in their fascinating murder investigations ".

Very reasonable and a good value for the price --- For product description and editorial review check this out on the Amazon site above my review.

I am thankful to the author for this labor of love. This is the perfect book for any devoted fan of three Oriental crime fighters of magazine fictiion, radio and films.

The body of material that exists from the original incarnations is too rich and enticing to be neglected indefinitely. Big thanks to Ben Ohmart and his staff at BearManor Media, as they have preserved the case files of the Oriental sleuths which are still accessible through the printed word of this book.

Let us allow the words of Mr. Moto to provide our benediction: "May sleep fall upon your eyes as softly as poppy petals on a placid pool. May your soul be blessed with repose, your dreams with enchantment."

HASH(0x96ffee70) out of 5 stars The Case Files of the Oriental Sleuths: Charlie Chan, Mr. Moto, and Mr. Wong 3 April 2012
By Frosty - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I grew up in a small town where the only entertainment was the theater. I probably saw every Charlie Chan movie shown there from mid 1930 until 1951. When I think of Charlie Chan I think of Sidney Toler. David's book brought back many happy memories. I think any Chinese sleuth fan would really enjoy the information David has given us. I have read his Western books also and anxiously await his next project.

As a reference book this might be useful. It outlines the plots of the various books and movies but little else. If you're looking for some real insight into the phenomenon of the oriental detective during the 30's and 40's you'll have to look elsewhere. It does not have any short stories, novels, or scripts to read.

This was one of the most informative Reference books I have ever seen in regards to the Background of Charlie Chan, Mr Moto & Mr Wong. Great History for any reader who has enjoyed either watching on screen or reading. Great Overview of all releases.

Mr. Rothel has done a good job over all. he is off some on some of his dates. most are minor mistakes. one big one is where Mr. Rothel states that in 1938 Mr. Alfred Andriola was selected by Earl Derr Biggers to create a Charlie Chan newspaper comic strip for the McNaught Newspaper Syndicate. this would have been impossible for Biggers to do since Biggers died on April 5, 1933, almost 5 years before Mr. Rothel says Biggers gave Andriola his permission for the comic strip. some reviewers claim that the book is to much on C. Chan, but you have to remember that more books, movies, radio and t.v. shows were made about the Chan character then all the Mr. Moto and Mr. Wong characters put to together. as I said before I think Mr. Rothel did a good job over all.
