Product Description

Review

"New figures and more focused highlights through the use of color makes this an exciting and almost fun-to-read text. "Once again this tome plowed new ground and sown it with authoritative, comprehensive, and well written compilation of what toxicology's all about and how it affects our world and its inhabitants." (Veterinary Human Toxicology 2002-02-01)

"This book is now an established classic in the field of toxicology. In the time between the fifth and sixth edition, there have been significant advances in research that warrant this edition. When it comes to completeness, there really is no comparable book on the market. " (Doody's 2001-01-01)

Book Description

The text presents concepts in logical progression from general principles to specific topics. In addition to new chapters and interior design, the 6th edition includes recent advances in molecular biology and pharmacogenetics and thoroughly revamped clinical chapters.

Format: Paperback
This is an excellent buy for students needing a toxicology text less weighty than the full hardback edition (and less expensive!). It has enough detail for me (a third year pharmacology undergraduate) and it is very clear and concise.

This is a truly remarkable buy for a toxicology book which is at the same time a good read on the general principles of toxicology and an invaluable shelf reference for toxicologists and occupational physicians alike.

To call this book detailed would be an understatement. It contains an insane amount of information, most of which is either self-evident or otherwise needless. The lack of summaries or a condensed version is also lamentable. It should be possible to say what the author says using a tenth of the words used. Attempting such an endeavor should be easy. Iam not entirely sure it is POSSIBLE to write more extensively and verbosely on the subject than the author does. And I am left wondering if he is paid per word.

The good thing about this book is that I strongly suspect you can understand it with any background whatsoever, provided you can read. The downside is that if you have a few loosely connected courses under your belt - such as chemistry, biology, biochemistry, and so on - reading this book will yield very little useful information. Meaning it is a gigantic waste of time, for the most part.

Casarett and Doull, PLEASE, recall Cicero`s words: "Brevity is the best recommendation of speech, whether in a senator or an orator."
this ALSO applies to textbook authors!

very concise text, covers most of subjects needed to study alongside a masters degree in applied toxicology.
