We meet Carter and his best friend Shelby as kids they were inseparable as Carter being the oldest of one of five children with two loving parents opposed to Shelby's family life. Her mum was a vile woman with a nasty tongue who would spit her venom to her daughter and her husband. Shelby's dad would drink to block out the nastiness that would come out of his wife's mouth. As the years progressed to teenage years Carter and Shelby became more than best friends but it wasn't to be when Carter thought that he was doing the right thing and ended things leaving Shelby absolutely heartbroken.

Shelby decides rather than stick around and see Carter on a regular basis she would flee her hometown along with everyone and everything else that reminded her of Carter. Eventually Shelby ends up getting married to another man even though as the reader you know that her heart truly belongs to Carter. Shelby is happy at first until the reappearance of her mum who is just as nasty as she always been and her husband is no better in abusing Shelby. Shelby files for divorce and decides to go back to her hometown and safe haven even if that means seeing Carter again after all these years.

Carter has spent the last 13 years trying to find what he had with Shelby but has been unsuccessful and has blamed himself daily since the day Shelby moved away. As soon Carter see's Shelby it's like the missing bit of the jigsaw and this time it's not going to destroy what they have that's if Shelby gives Carter a second chance.

3 Stars

The synopsis for this book really drew me in when I read it, it seemed like something I would love. Second chance romances are something I really enjoy but to be honest this one fell a little short for me.

I found Shelby and Carter's back and forth pretty annoying and very immature, I would expect this if they were younger but with being in their thirties I would have thought they would have grown up by now.

Shelby was by far the more immature of the two, she acted like a child nearly the whole way through. The final thing that made me dislike her so much was the fact she blames Carter for the things she went through after they split up in their teens. Which is totally unfair after that I had absolutely no respect for her at all!

I liked Carter if I'm being honest but I just couldn't like Shelby at all. Don't get me wrong there were times I felt sorry for her and my heart hurt for her but her character didn't fill me with the warm fuzzies!

This is the first book in Brie's new series about the Harlow brothers and I have to say I'm intrigued to see where she takes us next with these hunky men! I'm hoping it's Cason if I'm being honest I think he has history with Shelby's mother.

Shelby returns home after the collapse of her marriage & the betrayal of friends
Carter was her old childhood friend & first love but past mistakes kept them apart.
I was so engrossed in the story the characters & the family unit.
I can't wait to read the other Harlow brothers stories.
This book is a standalone & has an ending you the other brothers are mentioned in the books & leave you wanting them to meet there forever partners.
