A useful resource for answering all the questions that young enquiring minds will ask you about this facinating creature. The illustrations are colourful, clear and provide an added learning bonus when using the information for teaching.
The book itself is a handy size, easy to display and use, but also containing a wealth of in-depth information written in an easy to understand way.
This book is all you need!

This I will admit is a good basic book for the first-time snail keeper. However it fails to go into enough depth to be truly informative and will not provide you with the info you need to give your snail the long life it is capable of. What it omits to cover is the fact that though snails are easier to keep than many exotics, they are still exotics and there are many many situations that it does not cover. As an experienced keeper who has at present 7 species of african snail, and who has been keeping snails for over 10 years, I can assure you that this book does not tell you everything you need to know. It is simply a very basic beginners guide.

I was just looking for a cheap book with information about snails - pretty much all of it you can google anyway but it has sweet pictures and I really enjoyed the bit on snail anatomy - very interesting! Also cool to learn about how they breed and the differences between GALS that you can own. I'm on Zoo Soc committee at uni so at fresher's fayre I took my little guys (Barry and Shelly), along with this little book in case anyone wanted to know anything about them! - Lots of questions about how big they get and how long they live etc. Barry definitely enjoyed the limelight whilst Shelly was a bit more anti-social; she's just shy :P

Overall, a good value book for a bit of basic information - worth getting just for the fun factor!

The information could be more specific at times. Plenty of warnings about how to kill your snail and not enough detail on how to get it right. (e.g. "too wet / too dry" - definitions please!!)

Good introduction to snail care - most questions answered re containers, feeding, cleaning etc. A little thin on health related info, but suppose if you follow the other advice there's probably not a lot else to be done even for a poorly snail. A bit weak on what to do with eggs - African land snails are an alien species that mustn't be released so unless you can give/sell them to responsible owners you need to kill the eggs (or any hatchlings). Want a bit more info - British Conchological Society's a good place to start [...]

I bought this book to see if I could learn anything more about keeping Giant African Land Snails. This is a good book full of all the basics on how to look after Giant African Land Snails and the kind of set up you need and the basics on breeding etc.
If you are looking for a book that goes into far more detail on different subspecies or breeding of these animals this book isn't for you. If you are a first time keeper or are just wanting more information for a class project etc then this book will be perfect for you. It's full of Glossy pictures and is a wonderful little book on these amazing and easy to look after pets.
