Product Description

Review

"So convenient to carry in my bag and very easy to identify the food I am about to eat and how many carbs it has." "Great publication, which is really going to help me lose some weight." "Having had use of the full size book at home, I really needed a pocket size book to take on holiday and this certainly lived up to expectations." "I would recommend this valuable little booklet to anyone who needs to count carbs, cals and fat content of foods." "This book is a must for anyone who is diabetic, or if you are just watching your weight. Fantastic for counting calories and carbs." "We bought this as my 11yr old is diabetic. We already have the larger version of this book but this size has enabled it to travel in my daughter's "Frog Bag" (Diabetes bag) and has really helped her to engage in carb counting." "Well worth it. I have been on a DAFNE Course and these books supplement the help already received." "Almost as good as its big brother but easier to carry about." "This is a handy wee book for my son's diabetes bag. Useful for carb counting when out and about." "Very good book for diabetics who are on insulin and having difficulties in carbs counting in relation to the correct dose of insulin." --Amazon reviews

This book was recommended by my diabetic nurse for easy reference regarding carbohydrate content of foods to help me as I am now on insulin for my diabetes. It is so convenient to carry in my bag and very easy to identify the food I am about to eat and how many carbs it has.

We bought this as my 11yr old is diabteic. We already have the larger version of this book but this size has enabled it to travel in my daughter's "Frog Bag" (Diabetes bag) and has really helped her to engage in carb counting. Not so many pictures of each item as in the larger book so a little more logic needs to be applied but it's great to have a descreet book to use when out in public. Having the fat content also helps to guage the likely uptake of the insulin.

I bought this as a smaller version of it's big brother because it is easier to carry around. It's OK but my biggest gripe is that there is no index only food groups which makes finding a specific food tedious.

Very useful guide, small enough to pop in a bad or pocket, and helps judge roughly how much insulin you might need for most meals. Includes a lot of carb free foods too, with calories counted but zero carbs, which is helpful rather than just leaving them out and leaving you wondering.

This is an excellent guide, recommended by the diabetic clinic. It consists of photos of common foods on normal size plates so that you can judge how big a portion is, and it gives carbs, calories, protein, fat, fibre, and saturated fat so that you know exactly what you are eating. It is well laid out and I understand exactly why the NHS thinks so highly of this book.

So why only 3 stars? Well, the full size book has thousands more entries, but to be honest, I use the App on my smartphone. The smartphone is with me when I go shopping or go out to eat. I had intended to keep this book in my handbag and I did for a while, but found I didn't refer to it as much as I should have done.

But having said all that, it is an excellent book and would be particularly suitable for people who are a bit nervous of smartphones.

This is a very good book to help control Carbs and Calories if you are Diabetic or trying to follow a diet. I have the large version and bought this to take travelling. It gives portion sizes and weights and I find it very helpful.

Very handy, and made for "normal people" who are trying to loose weight, it makes you more aware of how to easily cut down calories via portion sizes without drastic measures. I found the full size book more useful simply because it has even more portion guidelines, but this is a handy size that can be carried about. Would recommend.
