In a larger format than expected but a good size for a younger reader, the illustrated hardback book measures around 20 cm x 24.5 cm. The thick card cover opens to 32 good quality, matte finish pages with the ‘story’ set across 24 pages in double page spread format.
In a good-sized font, it is a simply told but nevertheless meaningful account of the life of Captain Tom Moore, which is handled in a sympathetic way when things are not so easy. There is much to see in the seemingly simple illustrations including the subtle decrease in the number of comrades that come to the reunion every year, and did you spot the snake & the spider, nonchalantly hanging around?
A snatch of the content is shown in the ‘LOOK INSIDE’ facility above.

📝 ‘Little People, BIG DREAMS®: Captain Tom Moore
Discover the lives of outstanding people from designers and artists to scientists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream.
Once there was a humble boy from Yorkshire, England called Tom, who was born with his feet firmly on the ground. His determination and courage saw him and his comrades through the worst crisis the world had ever known: World War Two.
So, when a new crisis struck in 2020, just before his 100th birthday, Captain Tom knew just what to do…
This inspiring story of the captain’s life features a facts and photos section at the back.’
The latter is a final double page spread with 4 black & white ‘milestone’ photos, with each individually accredited over the page.
It starts with the fact that the world was starting to rebuild after a flu pandemic, in 1920 ~ the year he was born, and goes into some detail re the 2020 one, caused by the coronavirus and the steps he took to help in his own way.
The story poignantly ends:
~ ‘Captain Sir Tom Moore shows the world that the best way to rebuild after a crisis is to come together ~ and keep on walking.’
Like millions of others, I salute you ‘Captain Tom’, an utterly amazing man.

I thought this was a great gift for my Son for Christmas as a reminder of something positive to come out of 2020. We are already huge fans of Little People, Big Dreams and it made sense to get this for my Son who is only 4 to use as a tool to be able to educate him a bit about the Virus and everything that happened last year and is still happening. I also think its an amazing bit of history for the kids and very well written and illustrated.

My class love these books! - However after reading this one to them I feel it could be written much better. I had to add in lots myself to make the book sound more interesting (which is a shame because his story is actually very interesting!) It uses lots of describing words (and there's a lot of waffle for a younger audience) but it doesn't actually have much substance and that causes the main points to be missed.
There does always feels like something is missing in these books - whether it's that they have not given enough information or the point of their work is not quite made clear enough. I wonder if sometimes these books are not written by people who under child development and lack the skill in how to write the books in a way to maintain children's attention.
