Go wide or get close with 28mm, 5x lens. 10x ZoomPlus

Intelligent IS combats camera shake to ensure all your photos and videos are sharp and detailed even at full zoom or in low light. It automatically adjusts the optical Image Stabilizer to the scene from 7 modes to prevent blur.
1. Normal IS Camera shake correction for minimum blur in photos. It is powerful enough to give sharp results and good exposure in situations where a non-stabilised camera would have to use a much faster shutter speed to avoid shake.
2. Panning IS Provides smooth framing on a moving subject – stabilising in one direction only when panning horizontally or vertically.
3. Macro IS Provides extra compensation when shooting from a very short distance.
4. Tripod Mode Ensures optimum results in stills and movies when the camera is fixed on a steady surface, automatically turning image stabilisation off.
5. Powered IS Provides steadier movie footage with greater clarity and less wobble when shooting with high zoom.
6. Dynamic IS Corrects both hand shake and user-movement vibrations for smooth clear movies – such as when shooting from a car or walking along with the action.
7. Dynamic & Macro IS Detects when filming from short distance and combines the corrections of Dynamic and Hybrid IS for sharper and smoother footage.
Instant online and mobile sharing thanks to Wi-Fi*
Wi-Fi* support allows cameras to instantly connect with smartphones and tablet PCs when you are out and about and with wireless networks, computers and printers when you’re back home. Once connected you can upload images online and instantly share the precious moments of your life with friends and family using email or sharing sites such as Facebook and YouTube™.
The PowerShot A3500 IS allows you to use Wi-Fi to tag the images in your camera with location information recorded from the GPS of your smartphone. The Canon CameraWindow app uses the smartphone’s GPS to record locations while you shoot with your camera and then synchronises them using Wi-Fi with the files in your camera.
HD movies (720p) with movie button
Instantly record high quality HD movies (720p) with optical zoom by simply pressing the dedicated Movie Record button. This provides instant access to movie recording so you don’t need to switch the camera in Movie mode and therefore don’t lose vital moments of an impulsive, movie recording opportunity.
Smart Auto (32 scenes); Help Button
Even complete beginners can effortlessly shoot high quality photos or movies with Smart Auto, which detects the scene and automatically selects the optimal settings from 32 variables. Use the Help button for quick, easy-to-follow guidance on using your camera and its functions.
With Eco Mode activated the camera will dim the display after a specific amount of time of inactivity and then completely turn it off. This saves battery energy allowing the camera to capture more shots from a single charge.
Fun and creative modes
Experiment and have fun with a range of creative modes such as Fish-eye Effect, Super Vivid, or Monochrome. Miniature Effect makes scenes in stills or movies look like miniature scale models. Use Live View Control to easily experiment with picture settings such as brightness and colour intensity and preview the results while framing, so you can capture the best shot.

I have had compact cameras from the IXUS range previously and could not fault them. The Powershot range seems to be a more economical range than the Ixus.
What strikes you first about the Powershot A3500 IS is it's weight. It is very light and while this might seem like an advantage on the one hand, in fact it is in fact a little disconcerting when you have already owned an IXUS which is generally heavier and therefore gives you the impression of being more robust. The Powershot body is mainly plastic, with the front panel possibly metalised. This is my one concern about the camera - it may be more fragile than it's IXUS cousin. But that remains to be seen.
Features on the camera are the same as IXUS, and if you are already a Canon user then navigating around the settings is very simple. If you are new to Canon, don't worry, it is not a difficult one to use and the AUTO function is also available for first time users allowing them to begin taking photos as soon as the camera is out of the box and the battery charged.
Why I did not give this Powershot 5 stars is because one of the features that prompted me to buy the camera - the WiFi feature is not working for me despite contacting Canon Customer support a few times by email. This feature is supposed to allow you to upload your photos from the camera to your computer wirelessly. This would be an extremely handy feature if I could get it to work. I got it working with a 6 year old Desktop computer, but cannot get it working on my one year old Windows 7, Toshiba Laptop. Unfortunately this is the computer that I want the feature working with. The feature instructions in the manual (online manual) are not very clear, and the Canon Customer Support seemed to know what the problem was but when I followed their instructions I could still not get the feature working. The issues seems to be that you may need to make changes to your Internet and Firewall settings, and lets face it, how many Digital Camera users are comfortable with tweaking those?
It looks like I will just have to upload photos now using the supplied USB cable. That was the most disappointing aspect of my purchase.
The camera comes with battery, battery charger, Carry strap, very basic startup manual, CD - with software but no detailed User Guide.
The User guide can be downloaded from the Canon website and it is very comprehensive.
Overall I am pleased with the purchase, but missing the WiFi feature very much.
I will read other reviews more carefully before purchasing any digital cameras in the future.
Due to the small sensor size it is not great for low light situations or indoors with natural lighting. And as you would expect in this price range it doesn't shoot RAW files so it's harder to e.g. fix the white balance in post processing. Also, the camera will tell you what settings it has chosen for a picture (ISO, aperture and shutter speed) even though it will not let you alter them. That is useful information, but when you are thinking you would prefer different settings, as I sometimes do, then it is really frustrating.
All in all, this is a great camera, particularly if you can get it under the £60 mark. It sometimes goes in lightning deals, so look out for those rather than paying full price if you are not in a big hurry to get it.
I've included a few photos taken with the camera to give an idea of the colour tones and sharpness (or otherwise) of the lens. Bear in mind these are 10 times smaller than the originals (I can't upload the full size jpegs) so it doesn't give you an idea of the resolution.
