Manufacturer's Description

Just 38mm thick, the extraordinarily slender CanoScan LiDE 25 is the obvious choice for the uncluttered desk. Because of LiDE technology's tiny appetite for power, it does not require any clumsy power cords - a single USB cable connected to your computer is the only lead you'll ever need.

Despite its diminutive size, the LiDE 25 is big on resolution. Whether you are scanning documents or photos, the 1200 x 2400dpi¹ and 48 bit colour depth specification accurately reproduces every fine detail and subtle shade. Your pin sharp results will be suitable for enlargements and post-scan image editing.

A 'Scan to PDF' function scans documents straight to PDF (Portable Document Format), speeding up your work flow and doing away with the need for extra conversion software. A floating palette of PDF pages is created, which can be arranged or ordered at will. Text is automatically embedded in PDF files at time of scanning, allowing editing and searching.

Because not everything you need to scan comes in a convenient size, the LiDE 25 incorporates an innovative double hinged Z-lid. The lid keeps an even pressure on whatever you place on the glass, making it ideal for scanning thick documents, magazines and books - even small packages.

Canon's QARE Level 3 is your on-board photo print correction system. Dust and scratches are automatically detected and corrected, saving hours of manual retouching. Faded colour, excessive graininess and poor exposure can also be corrected.

LiDE 25's fast and convenient Multi-Photo Mode² creates individual automatically cropped files from a single scan pass of up to 10 separate photos, business cards or other originals. It even de-skews images automatically, saving precious time that would otherwise be spent carefully aligning photos on the glass prior to scanning.

Software supplied includes ArcSoft PhotoStudio image editing and OmniPage SE OCR. To help keep you organised, CanoScan Toolbox sits always-at-the-ready on your desktop, allowing you to customise the three EZ-buttons for common functions, such as copying, scanning direct to e-mail and straight to PDF.

Bought it knowing nothing about its capabilities. Found it to be reliable, good colour rendering, reasonably fast.

Bundled software adequate, tho' a little unpredictable at times - usually when I want to do a quick job... hey-ho!

Difficult to beat at the price; looks good, too.

Jim.

I bought the Canon LiDE25 to replace my unreliable Xerox 2400. The LiDE25 is less versatile and flexible in application and somewhat noisier. It is, however, MUCH easier to install and use and produces a highly satisfactory result. The OCR facility is very easy to use. It is also more compact, light, and with a very low power consumption - needing only its USB connection. So far it has been totally reliable, working first time, every time.

Very good price.

Excellent perfomance and simple to use.

Compact and most attractive.

One less cable is a real bonus.

It's slow and noisy. The software is poor and the scanner wont get detected by 'scanner and camera wizard' in XP or show up in 'My Computer' like normal scanners forcing you to use the provided software.

The software in simple mode does a really bad job because it post processes the image after acquiring and does it badly, however in advanced mode you can turn off everything except autotone, descreen and have dust reduction at medium and you get a good image.

Dont save in .jpg as it defaults to about 80% quality defeating the point of a 300dpi scan!

Good for occasionally scanning but if you do a lot look elsewhere.

I bought one of these after being very impressed by an earlier version of Canon's "Z-lid" scanners. That one was distinctly faster and produced superior quality compared with the Lide 25. All the same, this model is perfectly serviceable and seems well-made, but it is rather slow. If you do lots of scanning, better spend a bit more to up the speed and convenience.

I had to buy this to replace my Packard Bell 1200 Plus scanner as it was not compatable with Vista (sigh), and PB were not bothering to write new drivers. The canon is a lot noiser and slower than the Packard Bell, but it was very cheap and produces good results. I am quite happy with the Canon (but not Packard Bell).

I've not had enough experience using a variety of scanners to really offer a review, but I'm satisfied with the quality, speed, and size; one USB connection is a great future, there are only so many sockets for an adaptor and usually in a hard to reach place in an office.

Yes, I was satisfied with the speed, but it didn't seem any more quicker than a huge bulky ten year old model that this was replacing. That was disappointing considering I scan a lot of black and white documents in quick succession. It also has what appeara to be an LED light, which is a good replacement to the extremely bright bulb on my old one. It becomes inevitable that it gets to your eyes, and probably was a hazardous issue.

Very good price, lightweight and easy to install and comes with a range of good features.
