I have previously owned a Canon 300D and an Olympus C-8080. I kept downgrading until I have finally got a camera that I can & will take anywhere, without the need for a large suitcase!

This camera is simply superb, the 3inch screen is amazing even with the sun shining directly onto it! The results are very nearly as good as anything I have had on my previous cameras and to the uninitiated they wouldn't be able to spot the difference for a moment. Not only does it handle beautifully, it also looks like a piece of jewellery! I am still able to retain an acceptable level of control over the camera in the manual mode, but for best results may need a tripod, but then that's defeating the object of a small camera. No hesitation, buy this camera, and buy it from amazon, there price is stupidly low and free delivery.

A really good quality digital camera which is a doddle to use if you just want to point and click but just about every setting can be adjusted if you are a more serious photographer. The only annoying thing is that it didn't come with the advanced manual (even as a pdf!). Go to the Canon UK website and they will charge you £12 for a photocopy of it! I cannot believe their cheek. Simply go to the Canon USA site and its available to download for free under Canon Powershot SD630.

Needed a proper "pocket-size" camera to supplement my beloved Powershot 620 which is just a bit too big to always carry about. Quality of lens/picture was paramount so I stuck with trusty Canon. I looked at the Ixus 750 - nice camera, but proportions a bit on the large side still. The Ixus 60 was certainly pocket size, with a 2.5" lcd but as the optical viewfinder seems to be rated as a fairly useless one (and I never use the viewfinder anyway, even in sunlight)I decided to dispense with it altogether and go for the larger lcd on the Ixus 65. This camera is an absolute gem: far more stylish than the 60, fits nicely into a pocket or small bag, beautiful screen (but do invest in a screen protector - I would imagine it's very easy to scratch), and takes the usual superb photo that you expect from Canon. I also got the matching leather case which is worth every penny. Fantastic little camera, and my friends are all green with envy.

This camera ticks many boxes. It looks great, feels great and takes some great pictures. I have read on some review sites that it was difficult to hold due to the large screen - I have not found this a problem and is quite comfortable. I have also read when I was researching it that the Canon interface is difficult to use if you have never used a Canon before - again I found this very easy to use and did not even have to refer to the manual. There is only one thing I am disappointed with is that in low light the picture quality on the screen is poor although the actual picture taken is fine but this does make composing a shot more difficult. I would have thought it would be better as there is no option of a view-finder. However dont let it put you of buying the Ixus 65 as it is truley lovely in every other way! Tip buy some screen protectors. They wont detract from its beauty and will keep it in tip top condition.

I bought my IXUS 65 as a more travel-friendly companion to my dSLR, so one of the most important factors in my mind was how easily it would fit in my pocket, but I also didn't want to compromise too much on image quality; it had to be very significantly better than the camera on my mobile phone.

I spent a whole day on the internet researching my choice and finally chose the IXUS 65 over the Canon IXUS i7 (a smaller camera but other reviewers say it has poorer image quality), FujiFilm Finepix F30 (which might take better pictures but is not as compact), and the Panasonic Lumix FX07 (better in the wide-angle range but poorer image quality on some of the sites I've seen).

Good points of the IXUS 65:

- Very small and lightweight, easily fits into a small pocket

- Stylish looks will impress

- Ready to shoot pretty quickly when you turn it on

- Huge LCD display is nice and clear, makes composition easy

- Satisfactory indoor / night shots (many compacts struggle with this)

- Slow Synchro flash achieves good results at night

- Very good auto white balance - saves time

- Very nice macro shots for a digital compact

- Canon's online support is great except for replacement manuals...

In short this is an excellent, well thought out, incredibly well built camera, with features that will allow you to really explore your photographic potential.

Whilst biased on the brand (I grew up on a Canon SLR, in the days of 35mm film), this camera was an upgrade from my tried and trusted Ixus V, and I had high expectations for it; which is easily surpasses.

In "point and shoot" mode, i.e. fully automatic, it is quick to power up, shoot and recover in time for the next shot. Autobalance ensures excellent daylight exposure and the picture quality is superb. I agree with another reviewer tho', as it took me a lot of working out how to get appropriately exposed shots in the evening, where my subject was a fair distance away (switch to manual and change the ISO level off "high"). In this regard, I generally find the flash is underpowered (hence only 4 out of 5 stars).

Another very small point is the lack of view finder - replaced instead with an incredible composition screen on the back - but then, perhaps I'm hankering after the days when you pressed your nose upto the back of a camera! In manual mode, the sky's the limit, allowing a multitude of complex, arty, and amusing images to be taken (with the original taken alongside).

Data transfer *may* become a long-term issue - I prefer to remove the SD card and insert into my PC - I can well imagine the compartment door protecting the SD card either wearing loose, or breaking - the alternative - direct connect to PC via USB works fine - but I'm not a fan of the Canon software - prefering Windows to manage the transfer.

Lastly, buy an additional SD card (at least 512Mb).
