The CanoScan LiDE 20 is an easy to use scanner that gives you excellent, high resolution scans with consistent results across the width of the page. LiDE (LED Indirect Exposure) is Canon's own, advanced scanner technology. It provides scans of up to 600 x 1200 dpi and 48 bit colour with very low energy consumption - so low, in fact, that the LiDE 20 doesn't even need a power plug. It gets all the power it needs from the USB connection.
Compact Stylish Design
Canon endeavour to produce high quality, yet compact and stylishly designed products, and the CanoScan LiDE 20 is no exception. The LiDE 20 measures just 256 x 383 x 34mm and is finished with an attractive Ocean Blue coloured lid. In addition, the LiDE 20 includes a scanner stand as a standard accessory, enabling the user to store and scan with the scanner on its side, providing the worlds smallest installation footprint.
Single USB cable connection / No AC Adapter Required
Feel the ease of a simple connection with a single cord. The CanoScan LiDE 20 uses a USB 2.0 Full Speed interface cable to provide both data transfer and power to the scanner.
One Touch Scanning Experience
The CanoScan LiDE 20 includes three EZ scan buttons, ensuring quick access to great features. The "Scan" button saves the scanned image to file, "Copy" sends your image to a printer for automatic output, and "Email" saves the scanned file, as a specified file size, for attachment.
QARE v 2.0
QARE Technology (Quality Automatic Retouching and Enhancement) version 2.0 is featured on the CanoScan LiDE 20. QARE removes the minute dust and scratch on photographs using a software based interpolation process to achieve retouching effects. QARE version 2 has been enhanced, to improve the performance of dust and scratch reduction whilst also incorporating a function which reduces the noise level even further.
LIDE is Canons original and emblematic technology "LED Indirect Exposure". Essentially, LIDE allows Canon's Notebook scanners to gain higher colour fidelity and less distortion in image processing, whilst achieving image quality that is superior to CCD scanners in their class. LIDE also allows Canon's scanners to achieve lower prices, greater reliability and a smaller footprint , because there are less moving mechanical parts, and the CanoScan scanners use lower power consumption.
LIDE gives the new CanoScans higher sensitivity than conventional scanners, and is regarded, by industry experts, as the next-generation of image sensor technology.
The One Path Multi-Scan feature on the CanoScan LiDE 20 ensures faster scanning of multiple images than previously. Historically, the more multiple images to be scanned, the longer scanning will take, because images are scanned one at a time. One Path Multi-Scan ensures that multiple images are scanned collectively ensuring faster scanning operation.See all Product description
Top customer reviews
The end results are good quality; from photo scans to various types of documents I haven't found much wrong with the end result.
One of the best features of the scanner is that it needs no mains socket and simply plugs into the computer via USB and runs off low power from the computer unit...fantastic. The scans are very quick, even for a full A4 sized item.
The scanner itself is very sleak and slim, and comes with its own stand that enables the scanner to be stored on its side(like a PS2 games console) and takes up very little space.
With the name Canon you expect excellence, the price might indicate this isn't top of their range, but for basic every day scanning requirements, this offers fantastic quality and value for money.
And so I found the Canon CanoScan LiDE 20 scanner on Amazon at an unbelievably low price. It looked small and by jove it is small, light, and takes up but a tiny area next to my system.
The Big scanner now detached, can still be used, but the reproducing of pictures in speed, quality and technique by the Canon beats my old "steam driven" scanner into the proverbial cocked hat..Thanks Canon, thanks Amazon, my system is more compact and much better now, thank you..
Another reviewer states that it does not work properly with XP; I have found no problems at all, and am really pleased with my purchase.
The major issue with this scanner is that it will not work properly with Windows XP, you have to use special drivers (difficult to find) that don't support certain functionalities, this really isn't acceptable for hardware for such a mainstream operating system.
If you're on a budget and want a scanner to scan in the occasional document or photo then I'd say get this scanner. If you have XP, make sure you know your way around Canon's support website for the drivers.
" NOTE Windows 7 (64bit) does not support them."
Nor does it support Windowsw 8, 64 Bit.
This is not in the Blurb. It has just cost me £8 to send it back. Be warned.
Not a fualt of the product more of a faluire to comunicate its antiquity.
