Compared to these it's much bigger although chances are when you attach a lens the difference doesn't matter too much as neither will fit in a pocket .
Also the Sony might suit video better as it focuses whilst filming whilst you have to pre focus the Canon first before shooting.
However there are some big advantages to the SLR. The first is there's a greater choice of lenses available. Next is the optical view finder. Far easier to find what you are shooting at than on a screen particularly in sunlight. If you like wildlife for example can quickly pick the camera up, find it in view finder and snap an image. And taking pictures is a joy on this Canon. It's very easy to use, adjust settings and experiment. But on program or auto it'll reliably take good shots too. However if you know what you're doing can do even better. For example i use shutter priority for photos of my dogs to freeze movement.
I have a Canon 18 to 200 lens which provides a good focal range.
This lens is good outdoors. Could be sharper at full wide angle and a bit slow in poor light meaning the camera has to bump up iso. The sensors good too. It's been bettered by Nikon but I had Canon lenses so this made sense. Transferring pictures using Wi-Fi to phone or tablet is also handy. There's something satisfying about using an SLR that mirroless doesn't quite match. I had Canon mirrorless M10 but none of my standard Canon lenses focused properly even with mount so this seemed like the obvious choice and dedicated ef-m lenses way too expensive so sold that and got this. Also wanted view finder. Shame it doesn't swivel like the M10 but not a big deal breaker. I like the colours and exposure which seem spot on. The lens is probably the limiting factor. 18 to 200 is compromised but useful. Think a prime lens for indoor use will be my next purchase.
Great service. Arrived on time and well packaged.
I don't have much experience with cameras and after much research I decided on this camera. Comes with a detailed manuel which is a saint for camera dummies like me.
Provides a camera sash and lens as stated. (i usually get half of what I asked for whenever I shop in Amazon. I'm glad I don't have to return this - yet ).
One thing I have to warn you about though is the microphone. I obviously missed the description where it says there is a built in microphone and therefore no way to plug in your microphone if you had bought one. I had ordered the Rode microphone after seeing the microphone mount on top of the camera but alas there is no way to plug in the mic which is disappointing.
However, very excited to start using the camera.
It comes packaged in a nicely presented box with a picture of the camera and all of the information and features.
Getting into the box you are greeted with the instruction manual and other papers, opening the next part you can see the lens which comes securely wrapped in bubble wrap, in the slot on the left you will find the Battery, Charger and Charging dock, Strap and USB cable. In the right slot you will find the camera body it self wrapped in some nice packaging.
The camera is such an amazing DSLR, it features all modes you would expect including 'Food' which is a new mode. The video is very high quality, definitely crisp 1080p. The buttons on the camera have such a nice tactile feedback and the whole body feels really nice to hold. the slots on the side include the 3.5mm jack, USB slot and HDMI slot. The Wi-Fi and NFC features of this camera are insane! You can view all photos from your camera directly on your phone and even use your phone for remote shooting with a live view too. The 18-55mm lens included is great too, you can use it for shooting just about anything you like. Honestly if you want to get into photography, this is the camera for you!
I hope my review of the Canon 1300d has helped you in making your decision.
