About the Author

Tim has enjoyed an outdoor life since childhood. Farming, forestry conservation and archaeology have provided a working environment in the field, and contributed to an understanding of the land. While paddling and camping from Arctic Scandinavia to the Mediterranean coast, he has absorbed more, and hopes he is still learning. Writing about fishing, hillwalking, canoeing and camping, Tim had the first of many magazine articles published in 1990. He is a regular contributor to Canoe and Kayak UK and Bushcraft and Survival Skills, and often writes for The Great Outdoors. When not camping, Tim and Susannah live in Devon, England, midway between Dartmoor and the Atlantic coast.

This book is fantastic! I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an adventure, a keen canoeist, camper or even just somebody who enjoys amazing photographs of stunning locations. This book would make the perfect gift, as it was for me. But I warn you, reading about Tim Gent, and his wife Susannah's adventures will make you want to put everything aside and pack up to set off straight away...

Couldn't agree more. Good clear writing and the pictures are just fabulous. Tim Gent gently explains how he and Susannah set about making their canoe trips. Detailed, considered and all you need to know to get started yourself. Great stuff.

'Canoe Camping' by Tim Gent is an inspiring book that will give you the confidence to get afloat, but also make you aware of the pitfalls. Tim's sound advice will guide you through the myriad of different products available, which could save you some costly mistakes. Having read it right through, I'll continue to refer to it or simply look back over the fabulous photos.

A really good 'how to do it' book written by someone clearly passionate about the great outdoors and using a canoe to explore it. I was impressed by how much can be carried in an open canoe, making luxurious camping a real possibility (I love the tipi tent and stove). There is advice on everything you need - from canoe types and kit, to foraging, chopping wood and more. Wonderful photos too.

A really nicely presented book with a genuine balanced approach to canoe camping - it may mention branded product, but equally makes other suggestions too - well worth the money!
