There is a good balance between the fruit (cherries, black plums, ripe blackberries) and the clean nuances coming from the wood (clove, pepper, vanilla and coconut). The nose is further enriched by the aromas that develop during bottle ageing. Smooth and balanced on the palate with a long, lingering finish. Garnet ruby red in colour with brick coloured rim. Aromas of ripe berries and vanilla. A rounded wine full of flavour. Campo Viejo Reserva has intense cherry, black plum, and ripe, juicy blackberries. This is balanced with the oak characters of vanillin and cloves with a lingering finish. Bodegas Campo Viejo have been part of the history of winemaking in Rioja from the outset. Its origins date back to 1959 when two small Rioja wine cellars with a long tradition, Beristain y Ortiguela, joined forces to create Bodegas Campo Viejo. The Juan Alcorta Bodega is built on a plateau planted with vines. It has panoramic views where you can enjoy a glass of Rioja looking out over Ebro Valley and the Sierra de Cantabria mountains. Campo Viejo Rioja Reserva is made using carefully selected grapes and vinified at a controlled temperature, this wine spends 18 months in oak casks and further 18 months ageing in bottle to round it off.

A nice wine, at a nice price, but if it's supposed to be 2011 then that's what I expect to get, not the 2012 I received.
3 stars .......... deserves four for the 2011 it should have been.
